The thunder clashes

The lightning flashes

Across the night sky.

Telling the tale of a sad soul's mournful cries

Heart wrenching screams and wails

Are barely audible in the stormy night

As one girl sits in darkness and fright.

On a lone hill on the edge of nowhere

A young woman mourns her friend's death.

Remembering back to that peaceful moment ago

Before he drew his last breath.

His life had been violently snatched

When a bullet pierced through his flesh.

The agony. The pain. The screams..

Into a jumble of nothing they did mesh.

The world turned black.

It was the end.

No more life.

No more able to love

His one, lovely friend.

Now all alone,

Sitting in the cold rain

She placed a single rose on his chest.

Praying upon her dead lover

Peace and sweet rest.

To her the rose would symbolize

Her undying, unwavering love

That would last longer than the stars above.

Rising to her feet,

There was nothing left to do

But to walk away and move on in life

Without ever saying, "I love you."
