Lighthouse Love

In the chaos of the night,

As the wide-Eyed owl takes flight,

A cry for help, Drowned out by wind,

Is heard by none that can defend.

For as the light spins 'round and 'round,

And as the lighthouse stands its ground,

A fair young maiden, to her death,

Will fall as she takes her last breath.

She was not pushed, though she was found

Lying on the cold hard ground

On her own she took the plunge,

Stood so still and then she lunged

Down to the rocks damp from the tide

And just because she'd be a bride

To a sailor off at sea

Who, before he left, got on one knee

And told her she was his whole life

And asked her if she'd be his wife

She said she would and set a date,

The fourteenth at the time of eight.

She waited for him to return,

As her love inside her burned.

Until the clock chimed twelve, she prayed

For five more minutes, struck, she stayed.

Then she rose up from her chair,

And cut off all her long blonde hair,

And did the deed to end her life,

The only way to end her strife

While out at sea, the storm subsides,

No longer fate will it divide

As he draws near, just after dawn,

He wonders why the light is on.

His fiancé cannot be seen

No more do his eyes show a gleam

As he walks around the other side

And sees what would have been his bride

He screams out to the vast blue sea

And says, "Why'd you do this to me?

You slowed my boat you made her wait

And now she's dead because I'm late."

He took his knife and held it high

Then stabbed himself and began to cry

"Why did she not wait for me?

This proves she had no loyalty."

As he bled onto the rocks

He looked to his boat at the dock

He said goodbye to his dear friend

And then his life came to an end.
