I don’t know…why am I defensive of him? I mean I don’t care about him…do I?
“Dad, I’m going to bring Keith to my room and then I’ll come back here and talk to you. That is if you calm down,” Kit said as she straightened her back and glared defiantly at her father. Mr. Masters wasn’t usually like this but he had been very worried about his daughter.
“Fine, I give you two minutes then I’m coming to your room if you’re not back out her!” Mr. Masters said firmly as Kit wheeled Keith down the hall into his room.
“You’re one of the medieval family?” Keith said. It was known that all of Kits extended family also lived in the large castle, two families per normal living area.
“Yup!” Kit replied happily, it always dazed people that she was just like everyone else, “hey are you okay?” Kit asked more seriously.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” Keith said even though it didn’t convince Kit. She let it be and went out to her dad.
“Kit, I’m giving you five minutes to explain yourself,” Mr. Masters said as Kit joined him in the kitchen.
“Well, Mrs. Clifton got mad at me for say prejudice still exists today. She assigned me to Keith, you know how the level three AIA’s work. I would have been home on time to explain this to you but, Keith got beat up and we had to go to the hospital. Now Keith needs someone to look after him and help him manage and Mrs. Lowery is out of town, if she doesn’t stay she’ll lose her job. Being a single parent that obviously isn’t an option so that leaves me,” Kit explained to her father.
“How do I know the two of you won’t do something alone in that house,” Her father asked sternly glaring down the bridge of his large nose.
“He’s not into girls,” Kit replied uncertainly. When her uncle had ‘come out’ he had been kicked out of the castle. This was more important than her dad getting mad at her. Mrs. Kingie set off a red alert in her, there was no possible way for her to leave Keith with that woman and not be eaten alive by her conscience.
“Kit,” her dad said warningly, “what do you mean by that?”
“He’s like ‘you-know-who’,” Her uncles name was like Lord Voldemort, no one shall speak his name without earning a death sentence.
“Is this a matter of life and death with the boy,” Kit’s dad was now thoroughly mad.
“Yes, it is,” Kit told a half truth, he could get an infection and die from that; however, that was highly unlikely.
“Fine, but I don’t want you becoming a ‘death-eater’” See what I mean. They treated homosexuals like they were evil.
“Okay, I won’t,” Kit said, “Besides I wouldn’t stay if it were less than that,” that wasn’t really a lie, or the truth it was one of those things where you didn’t know where you stood exactly, the only thing that could tell you was time.
“Now go pack your bags and get that…thing out of here,” Her dad said. Kit responded. Not knowing why she was growing angry with her father.
