Embracing the Empty Room
Standing in an empty room,
I can see with my eyes closed.
Nothing moves,
I cannot breathe.
Here there is darkness and light,
Living in a symbiotic harmony.
You cannot turn away from the darkness,
You cannot let go of the light.
The people are coming,
They will be here soon.
With them comes my confusion,
Their gift to me is pain.
I could try to run away from them,
I know I could escape,
But no, I must be stronger,
They cannot know my fear.
Slowly the room is filled,
And suddenly I cannot hear.
Their voices drown out everything,
So I shout above the roar.
"What is the purpose of this madness?
What are you proving here?
Do you ever see the other person,
Do you ever hear their words?"
Half of them are purged in darkness,
The other half is bathed in light.
The cannot listen to each other,
The screaming cannot stop.
Slowly I close my eyes,
Quietly I breathe,
Carefully I walk between the warring sides,
And hold a hand out to each.
Suddenly the noise has stopped,
Everyone can see.
"With one hand you must embrace the darkness,
With the other embrace the light."
