Your Best Friend

If I could be your best friend

I'd do so much for you

I'd buy you lots of presents

I'd wrap each one of them too

I'd take away your sickness

And free you from your pains

I'd be your only shelter

For when it snows and rains

I'd be there when I'm needed

To wipe away your tears

To give your hand a gentle squeeze

I'd take away your fears

I'd give you lots of chocolates

And hugs and kisses too

To give a small reminder

That I'm always here for you

But alas, I'm not your best friend

Only someone soft and warm

Someone to walk you to and fro

Treated when I sit and perform

Someone to drop you off at school

To wait till you come home

Someone to greet you with a kiss

And to watch while you play alone

Someone you tell to speak for you

Someone to watch you go away

Someone to follow you close behind

Until you tell me to stay

I want to be your best friend

To speak and play with you

To lie with you under the trees

To do what best friends do

If I could be your best friend

I wouldn't have to stay

But while I'm held back by a leash

I can only watch away

Please let me be your best friend

I'd look after you

For you I'd love and protect

Cos that's what best friends do
