Two Oceans

As I kneel upon the sand

I hold these grains in the palm of my hand.

And I pretend that each one I’m holding

Is a piece of me.

Some just fall down to my knees

So I give the rest of them to the breeze.

This way I thank the wind that has left me

Sitting here beside your sea.

A dream just sails on the blue of your eyes.

But love is the wind upon which a ship like this relies.

And when the tide leaves me washed up on the shore,

I long to merely float upon your oceans once more.

Suddenly I feel so brave.

Your kiss takes me like a crashing wave.

I want to trust that you won’t throw me

Head first in the sand.

I swear you won’t find yourself chagrinned

If you just throw your grains into the wind.

Come sail with me, God knowing

When and where we’ll land.

A dream just sails on the blue of your eyes.

But love is the wind upon which a ship like this relies.

And when the tide leaves me washed up on the shore,

I long to merely float upon your oceans once more.
