Take My Picture

Take my picture

Some people believe

That photographs

Can drag out your soul

Wrench it from your heart

And parade it

In front of the world

Well I hope that’s true

I willingly

Free my soul today

And as it waves in

The winds of my

Already-free spirit

You can see that this

Flag of mine is

14 shades of gray

All these colors

Imprint themselves

On people’s eyes and

Burn their way into

Their brains to

Forever change minds

As they fly past faces

This world is not

Just black and white

It’s Indian and

Hispanic and

Asian and all these races

Blend together into

Such a sweet, rich

‘n’ creamy smoothie

Independent of

The skin color

All the voices hit the same note

Despite the size all

All the footsteps beat

The same tone and rhythm

No matter the shape

All of the eyes

Can see the truth

But the hearts divide

This world into

Two types of people

Those who know the right

Thing, can stand up

And do the right thing

And those who can say

All the right things

And do them all wrong

We are all created equal

But some

Don’t believe that

You have got to

Say it loud

SHOUT IT OUT

‘Cause yelling for something

You believe in

Is the only thing worth yelling for

So take my picture

And see that my

Soul and heart all scream for

Equality
