Come

Come and shine your light in me
Like a star I have swallowed, enlighten me
For inside me there’s only darkness

Come and breathe your life in me
Like a river of gladness enliven me
For inside me there’s only death

Come and build your strength in me
Like a hand on my shoulder strengthen me
For all I am is weakness

Can you see me sinking, dying
Can you hear me praying, crying
Can you sense my spirit sighing
All the wicked whispers lying

Wrap me in your cloak of hope
I’m pelted hard by sorrow’s rain
Surround me with your shield, ward off
the arrows’ hail, or I’ll be slain
Cover me in your coat of blood
Absorb this poison, guilt, hurt, pain

You’re all I have to cling to
I cling, I cling, though so engrossed
Though torn to shrouds of sorrow
Though ripped and frayed and tossed
So come, please come and save me
Or all I am is lost
