This is How Things Are

This is how things are

This is my life

Nothing's going wrong

While nothing's going right

And just how was I

Reduced to just this

Oh, if only I could find

That ignorant bliss

Before, you were nice

Before, you were kind

Before, you always

Had good thoughts on your mind

Now, you lure us in close

Then stab us in the back

And toss us in a pile

Place us in a stack

I thought we were friends

I thought you were kind

I thought that you had

Good thoughts in mind

Now I see what you are

And wonder what you'll be

In a couple years

Or when you're twenty-three

Shameless and friendless

The world may or may not know

What went wrong

And why you had to go

And I'll sit and laugh

Because I knew

What you used to be

Before you grew

Before we all were old

Before, when we could care

Before we lost our hearts

And would blankly stare

This is how things are

This is my life

Nothing's going wrong

While nothing's going right

And just how was I

Reduced to just this

Oh, if only I could find

That ignorant bliss

This is how things are

This is my life

Nothing's going wrong

While nothing's going right
