The image of perfection that I held over you falls away
I promised myself I would never try to change anyone
And your flaws are mounting higher and higher
But I have nothing else to do but watch
As my chances keep on falling into oblivion
One by one my stars are shot down
They fall in glorious streaks of gold
It's almost funny how beautiful it all is
How beautiful a person's pain can be
The wonderful man I saw was nothing at all
Just a figment of my optimistic imagination
I can't keep grasping at shadows that don't exist
There has been so many times when I judged wrongly
I suffer from a blindness that has nothing to do with sight
There's nothing under the mist
Just a vast space of emptiness
You're nothing I thought you were
You're nothing I thought was there
