Chronology

I’m looking for something that’s truly mine
While traveling down life’s deserted street:
Desperately seeking my place in time.

My current life has tread a narrow line
Through endless fields of brown and golden wheat.
I’m looking for something that’s truly mine.

Readily, I’ll trade this life for a fine
Circumstance, or future I’ll soon greet:
Desperately seeking my place in time.

Problems as those seem truly so benign
Though keeping such is an unlikely feat.
I’m looking for something that’s truly mine.

Highest angelic orders sing sublime
Hymns. Powerless, I wait and take a seat:
Desperately seeking my place in time.

Like prophetic charlatans who divine
Mysticism of futures we’ll soon meet—
I’m looking for something that’s truly mine:
Desperately seeking my place in time.
