On the staff of five lines
Are the little cheerful notes
Forming a melodious sonata

Gracefully and elegantly, the notes
Dance in the ballroom of staff
To the pulsating rhythms

The semibreves prance largo;
The crotchets jig andante;
The quavers gambol allegro;
The semiquavers jive presto!

Then the whole dance floor
Reaches a deafening CRESCENDO
Everything comes to a complete standstill

There is a moment of silence
Followed by an allegretto waltz –
Tempo di Valse

Finally the music comes to a
Ritardando and diminuendo
Reaching a note too soft to be heard
A pause followed by fine
