“Stupid kids!” I grumbled as I pried an arrow from my stomach. “Mrs. Tenille, Why can’t we shoot by ourselves today?” Bursting into my house, a cottage really, I surprised Ella. She shot up blushing from a puzzle she’d been working on with Pie. Already at eleven she’d grown a crush on the poor lad. He flushed and subconsciously tried to fit a piece of the sky in the middle of a tree. Sighing I smiled. “Sorry, if I started you.”

“Mommy! You’re hurt!” Ella rushed up and pressed on the wound to stop most of the blood from leaking.

I nodded and winced. “Thanks Ella.”

She led me to a seat and turned to the Kitsune teenager. “Pie, get the bandages.”

“Okay.” He rushed to the medicine cabinet and grabbed the rags and long strips of cloth. I lifted my shirt to reveal a large gash. Pressing the rags to my skin he winced. “That’s bad!”

Ella clutched my hand. “Mommy, does it hurt?”

“No, Ellie, I’m fine.” I said and started to wrap the strips around my waist. I managed not to wince but my hands shook as I stood. “I’m going to lie down.”

I stumbled to my room and collapsed onto the bed. I fell asleep instantly.

“Tenille?” Ash shook me lightly. I awoke but only to blink stupidly. I felt his grip on my shoulder tighten. “You’re leaking blood through your bandages!”

“One tends to call it bleeding.” I muttered as he started to lift me up. “It also tends to be painful to be moved while wounded.”

He walked out of the room. “You should be in the infirmary! You need stitches.”

“I wish I was healed.” I sighed.

Ash stopped and glared at me sternly. “Tenille you really have to stop using your energy….. The war…... You’ll be the only defense here, in the village. ”

“It isn’t going to help me much if I’m too weak to get out of the hospital. Besides then I’d be at the castle.” I pointed out to my husband and kissed his cheek. “And all the Kitsune and the girls will be here too, I’m not alone.”

Ash put me down and sighed. “I hate leaving you and Ella here alone.”

I kissed him and wrapped my arms around him. “Why can’t I go with you?”

“It wouldn’t be safe.” He kissed my forehead. “And if you were hurt…..”

“I want to go……. I’m the warrior of Moore’s, damn it!” I snapped poking him on the chest angrily. “I’m not some pansy weakling who needs rescuing!”

“I’ve had to rescue you plenty of times.” Ash kissed my forehead. “And every time you were defenseless.”

I frowned. “I’m sick of you treating me like a porcelain doll. You sound like Mrs. Nanny!” I backed up a few steps so I could stare him in the eyes without looking up.

Ash started to get angry. “Tenille…… You aren’t porcelain but this isn’t a normal world. There are so many dangers here that even I can’t defeat alone.”

“Then don’t go alone!” I protested.

He snapped at me and flushed with anger, “You’re staying here and that’s that! I will not let you die!”

I slapped him right across the face. “You shouldn’t be the one saying that.” Then I noticed Ella staring at us shocked in the doorway. “Ellie take off your shoes before entering.” (I was told most of USA and Canadian mainlanders keep their shoes on inside…. Odd! Not us Newfies! And they pronounce it New-fin-d-land…… We call it like you read it New-found-land….. And we are part of Canada and are normal and have cars and VERY few Canadians say ‘Eh’…..)

“Tenille…..” Ash sighed but then became silent.

I remained emotionless as Ash kissed me goodbye. My arms however wrapped around his neck. A flurry of emotions mingled with the sweet taste of his kiss. Lovingly he wrapped his arms around my waist and broke away for only a second to whisper. “I’ll come back, I promise it no matter what.” I just kissed him again and savored his warmth. Sadly he broke away. “Goodbye, my love.”

“Daddy!” Ella clung to him suddenly. “Don’t leave!”

He knelt down and messed up her hair. “I’ll be back Ellie so be good for your mother.”

“Okay.” She suddenly started to cry into my skirt.

I absentmindedly patted her head and finally spoke. “Be careful, Ash.”

“I will.” He kissed my forehead. “I love you.”

“I love you, too.” I watched him leave and sighed. Once he was long gone I turned to Ella. “Are you ready to go to Pie’s house?”

“I don’t understand why you didn’t tell Daddy you were going too!” She murmured still crying.

Sighing I barely managed to say. “It’s complicated. Mrs. Desiree will explain it to you.” I led her to Dez and Angel’s house and went off to join the army.

I fiddled with my neatly cut blonde locks and adjusted my eye patch that covered my left eye. I had used my magic to form a slash on my cheek to avoid suspicion. I had bound my chest and donned a loose green shirt and a brown vest. Gloves concealed my feminine fingers and my wedding ring. Walking up to King Chibi I bowed saying in an odd light grumble of a voice that sounded very masculine (I can do Dr. Claw and the Cave of Wonders expressions). “I heard this was the place to apply to the central army.”

“Name and city of origin?” Staci didn’t even look up from the list of soldiers.

“Taraellinet from the town of Moonlight Sonata….. I’m from a country far to the east named Beethoven.” I smirked and bowed slightly. “I’m a trader but I thought you could use a hand.”

Staci raised her eyebrow looking up. “Very well then join the ranks. You’re part of Group 178.”

“Thank you.” I nodded with a chuckle. “Hope I can help.” Before they could respond I walked towards the ranks whistling Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata. I ended up being directed to my group which consisted of Lollander, Gick and Derek. I smirked as I noticed my bunkmates. “Lucky me! I get to bunk with the gay guys!”

“Yes you are lucky.” Lollander looked me up and down hungrily. He was lying out inside our tent a few feet away from the other two.

I raised an eyebrow and decided to tell them. Looking around I saw that no one was watching. Walking inside I smirked. “I guess its only fair I let you guys know. But keep it down.” Lifting my eye-patch up I grinned. “Taraellinet at your service.”

“Tenille?” Lollander looked shocked. “You look sexier as a man!”

I groaned. “That was flattering.”

Gick gasped. “Why are you cross-dressing?”

“Ash won’t let me join the army.” I shrugged stating it as simply as possible.

Lollander giggled. “Can ‘Taraellinet’ be my boyfriend? No one would suspect you then and I’ll look cool with a sexy man by my side.”

I giggled and put the patch back on. “Sure but no kissing. That’s ingenious.”

“All the girls will be jealous!” He dazed off dreamily. “You’re so sexy!”

Shaking my head I sighed and eyed Derek who was staring. “What? Can’t I have a pretend ‘boyfriend’?” Acting offended I tugged Lollander outside. “Loll show me off to Ash. I want to test this out.”

He giggled and wrapped an arm around me. Leading me to the main tent he approached the dazed-off Ash. He was hovering over a map absentmindedly. “Ash! Look at my new boyfriend! Isn’t he sexy!”

Ash looked me over once then shrugged. “He looks pretty strong.”

“Thank you, I try to stay fit.” I smiled friendly at my unknowing husband. “Loll, you were right! He is almost as sexy as you!”

My ‘boyfriend’ giggled and squeezed me. “Oh stop you! Lets go back to the tent and get away from Ash, he’s probably moping over the fact he had to leave his wife behind.”

“He’s married…… Drat! I was hoping on having a three way.” I sighed dramatically and winked at the horrified Ash.

Lollander sighed dreamily. “I guess we’ll be alone tonight.”

“Oh well……. Maybe that other couple will join us.” I grinned self-assuredly at Ash as he winced. “Let’s go Loll-baby.” Walking out I snickered, “did you see the look on his face?”

“Yes. Priceless.” My partner in crime smirked. “This is fun!”

“Do I know you?”

“Hmm……” I looked up from my breakfast to see Gillibob staring at me intently. It was the second week of our trek and he’d avoided me until now. “Maybe………. Do you know my boyfriend Loll-baby?”

He raised an eyebrow. “So you’re the Taraellinet he’s been rambling about? I heard you scarred Ash for life.”

“I try my best.” I smirked impishly and started to eat again.

Gillibob raised an eyebrow. “You did it on purpose?”

“Straight men are fun to play with.” I winked. “Especially rare breeds…… So sexy. You however are quite plain…… Sexy but plain.” I noticed Chibi approaching with Lollander. “Your majesty, Loll-baby.”

“So you’re his new boy? Congratulations. Perhaps he’ll stop harassing the male population now.” Chibi seemed relived.

“Harassing without me? Darn it! Most of the men here are sexy!!!!!” I winked at Chibi.

He ran off. “Goodbye I have to write a letter to my wife.”

“All of the straight-sexy men are married.” I whined at Lollander.

He then sat on my lap. “So? You’re my man!”

“Lollander, you should get up before SOMETHING happens.” Gillibob was gone in seconds.

He smirked and got up. “You’re evil!”

“I try.” I smirked and focused back on my porridge.
