Meshed Town
By Sara Harari
Outside the backdoor,
The dog waits to be let in,
Scratching the screen and whining.
Across town,
Bill of Bill and Sons emerges from his store,
locking up for the day.
At his nextdoor neighbor’s,
His son is courting Angelina.
Her brother washes his new car
Proudly in the driveway.
Dave, his best friend,
admires the chrome and complains
how he’ll never get a car.
His cousin sits with me,
over looking the town.
From our vantage point,
we can see everything.
My mother calls me to dinner
and I go out to let the dog in.
