Story-

Lirit reeled back in horror when he walked into the room to see his best friend in the floor, covered in his own vomit and blood. Lirit prided himself on a tough stomach, but this was a little too much. He backed up a little bit and was quietly sick in the corner. He ran outside to alert Kieran. “KY, KY” he screamed desperately, running blindly back out to the street. “Call 911! Call 911 now!”

Kieran was so alarmed she almost jumped in surprise as she grabbed her cellphone and began dialing. Lirit took the phone from her when someone answered.

“He’s dead, there is no way he isn’t dead” he said hysterically into the phone, the person on the other end was a woman.

“What happened?” she asked coolly, and calmly. How could she be calm?

“I think he tried to kill himself” he gasped. When Kieran heard him say that she began to cry, losing control of herself. “He’s in his bedroom, on the floor. Oh my god, I don’t know if he’s alive. He’s bleeding from somewhere, and there is vomit all over” he described to the woman.

“Address please?” she asked.

“153 Bluebird Avenue, oh god, hurry!” he said desperately.

“Everything is going to be fine, keep speaking to me. Is there anyone else there?” the woman asked.

“My girlfriend, Kieran. He’s my best friend, and she’s his best friend too” he told the woman.

“Well you two stay calm, an ambulance is on the way”

…Later…

Finally after Lirit and Kieran had both calmed down a little teensy bit ambulances and paramedics began to pull up, followed by police cars. When they came out with Slade on a stretcher Lirit felt a cold lump of ice form in his stomach, he was almost mechanical as he drove to the hospital. The whole way there he thought morbidly “And we’re the only ones who care about him” over and over again. Somehow he felt like repeating this was helping him stay sane. ‘I’m going insane’ he told himself. ‘How must Slade have felt to try to do this to himself?’ he wondered.

Beside him Kieran was having some of the same thoughts, but she was feeling terribly guilty too. ‘Why didn’t I try to help him before? How did I not notice how depressed he was getting. I’m such a terrible friend. Why didn’t I stay here with him tonight instead of leaving?’ she asked. In all reality she had no reason to feel guilty, she’d helped him to the best of her ability by having the good instincts to come check on him.

When they arrived at the hospital there were people already there, Lirit’s parents and Kieran’s parents were there waiting. Slade had no one in his family to be there for him, but their family was trying to make up for it. He’d been in a coma for so long. Lirit didn’t cry at all, but he was so torn up inside he could barely think. ‘What if Slade doesn’t make it? What am I going to do with myself after this?’ he began to wonder.

Slade was quiet, and he was sort of taken for granted before then. Neither Kieran or Lirit had really realized how much he meant to the two of them. First of all Kieran and Lirit wouldn’t have been dating still if it wasn’t for Slade. Slade patched up all of their small arguments for them, so they could be happy. They’d never even given it a second thought about how it could hurt Slade. They’d never even bothered to listen to Slade’s problems, they’d taken it for granted that he didn’t have many, and that if he did he didn’t want to talk about them. It was apparent now that his problems were far worse than either of theirs.

They both wondered for a while, how their best friend could be suffering from immense depression and neither of them had ever really noticed him. How was that? How could someone be in so much pain inside, and no one even has a hint.

Finally after they were left alone with just thoughts, and their families, and each other a doctor came out.

“We think he’s going to make it, but it’s going to be very hard for him to recover” the doctor told him. “He’s ruined one of his kidneys, and we may have to look into open heart surgery in the near future. But if we can keep him in here for a week or so and do some more testing and if he does alright with the medicine we give him I think he’ll turn out well enough” the doctor explained. Both Kieran and Lirit breathed in a deep sigh of relief, they’d both thought he’d die, and they weren’t really so sure the doctor was telling the truth at the moment.

“When he is out of this place we’re going to get him to move in with us if its possible” Kieran’s mother told her gently, trying to maneuver her out of the hospital. “He doesn’t have any family left, and he lives out there all by his lonesome. What he needs is a little bit of company” Kieran gave her a weak smile.

“I’ll ask him” she replied, thinking that nobody in their right mind would want to move in with her family.

Lirit’s family weren’t quite as supportive as Kieran’s but they all liked Slade and said nothing at all to keep themselves from saying something terrible about him.

On the drive home both Lirit and Kieran wondered how they would sleep that night.

Author’s Note- And that’s all I have for you this time. Hope to update soon. .
