Chapter four

The stepped through the doorway and were immediately shrouded in darkness. There were no torches save the one they carried which immediately blew out as a gust of wind berated them. The air seemed somewhat foul, the stench of stale blood and something else. Aruna turned her head slowly as if to gaze around her even though she could see nothing. The Maidens were silent for once, keeping their mouths tightly shut no longer courageous enough to voice their curiousity. Aruna was thankful, because even though they could not see, there were dragons all around them.

Carefully Aruna stepped forward until her foot hit something solid. She brought her hands down until they felt something solid, and traced it with her fingers. Satisfied she spoke in a quiet voice to the Maidens. "Bring the cot here. Quickly!"

Still silent the maidens made their way in the darkness towards Aruna's voice. Often they stumbled over their own feet, reluctant to move to fast for fear of tripping. The maiden bumped into Aruna, and they both stumbled, Aruna gathered herself more quickly than the maiden and cursed severly inside her head, not willing to show the Council of Dragons her viperish tongue. She took hold of the one end of the cot, casting the Maiden aside. She placed the cot on the stone that was made to bare humans. It was the length of a tall man, and the width of a fat one.

Just as Trinity was laid down a gust of fire exploded over top of them roaring with rage. The maidens threw themselves down to the ground screaming, crawling as fast as they could to the exit. Aruna did not cowar in fear, instead she remained poised where she stood before, but now standing straighter with her hands at her side, the flames inches above her head.

The fire above wakened the torches on the walls, setting them aflame. Two thick poles stood tall on either side of the stone platform Trinity laid upon and them too were set aflame. When all the torches were lit the fire above their heads stopped and once again the cave grew silent.

The maidens who had made it half way to the door were confused and still frightened. They slowly rose from the stone floor now able to see. What they saw was five large red dragons standing around them in a semi-circle, their red scales reflecting the flames. Large eyes the size of a man's fist glared down upon them. They were magnificent to gaze upon with their eyes glittering like fire gems and a slited pupil in the middle.

The dragon in the middle stepped forward and Aruna turned her head to the maidens. "Go now, you are no longer needed." She said sternly.

The Maidens did not hesitate to leave, scurrying quickly to the exit. The large door closed behind them, leaving the dragons and Aruna alone with the dying women between them.
