Darkness, everywhere. I keep looking for something, something besides the endless dark. I know, if I just keep walking along this desolate road, I know I will eventually find something. I don’t know what I’m looking for; I just know I have to keep walking, keep searching. And I’m prepared to do just that. I have to. I know that, one day, I’ll find it. I’ll find it. What is it, you ask? I don’t know. I don’t even know if I’ll recognize it, when I do find it. But I must hope. It’s all I have left.
One day, I thought I found it. I was walking, as I always do, along the deserted highway. It was early; only about 5:00AM. There was a light. As I approached, I recognized it for what it was: a lamp-post. Around it, there was a ring of fading light. It would be gone soon, as dawn was coming soon. But somehow, I knew, as I passed under the pale gold light, that I was at home. For the first time, I was at peace. No demons lurked in the light, and in the light, I was safe from them. In the faint glow, I was free of the evils that lurked in the darkness of my mind.
I stayed in that light until the sun rose, and the lantern went out. Then I could again be found, walking. Walking forever in the eternal night. But this time, as I moved on, I knew. I knew what I was looking for. I was looking for a light. A lantern to spark the much needed light in my life. A lantern to drive away the shadows. I still hadn’t found it, but after standing in the ring of light, I knew what I had been searching for, all those years. After the lamp-post, I had a purpose.

I came up with this while I was walking my dog, believe it or not. I walked under a lamp post, this flickered through my mind, I ran home, and jumped on the comp. Therefore, this is dedicated to my dog, Amy!
