Dark Victory

by fabian cortez

Oh, to pass over

Prospect given

A grin as false to those

Blind about you, who

Know nothing of

Darkness

-

Yet I who awaited

You so long

Sit sublime in

Knowledge of

Such bitter

Purpose

-

As you left behind

Garbled tones

Of modern

Orchestration &

Insipid watered

Influence

-

I considered youth

I saw age's insignificance

As her tender years

Dismissed in moments

& you bathed in

Her life's

Sacrament

-

Agonised masculine pitch

Indicated similar fate

Befalling her lover

I watched again

As you gained

Strength

-

So while you consumed his

Bluest comforting eyes

I pondered my

Decision as to allow

You one last

Meal

-

In an instant

My claws plundered sinew

In your throat as you

Tried to shriek out

I guzzled greedily on

Your flesh so to gnaw

Ravenously at

Your bones

-

Within moments

There was no trace

Of the demon

Ever being there

My hunting ground

Was safe

-

I sit now waiting for my

Prey

-

Yet retain a feeling;

An instinct

Perhaps?

That I too am not

Alone
