I feel I should tell you right now that this story is based on a fic by Jeru134 called It’s a Crazy Love thing. The basic plotline is her’s how ever she never finished it so a lot of the later stuff is all me. This is the first draft, my beta and I will be fleshing it out and making it better soon.

Blazing Hearts

The night was clear and cool as Blaze crept along the roof. Her job was simple, sneak in grab some gold statue and kill the owner and his wife. After tying a rope to some pipes she pried the sky light open and slid her way into the house. The place was dimly lit and ornately decorated. The security in the place was not the most sophisticated she had seen. Two bodyguards sat dozing by the door. She tiptoed passed them and into the master bedroom. On one wall there was the gold statue of a horse sitting on a pedestal. She grabbed it and zipped it up in a pouch on her back. The next part would be considerably trickier. She had to pry open their mouths and place a tablet of poison on their tongues that would dissolve and kill them while they slept. All of this took under five minutes. She didn’t leave a trace except a lock of candy-red hair on the pedestal.

There was a knock on the door as Dallas lay face down on her bed, her head throbbing from her late night adventure. The door opened.

“Go away goons, I’m in no mood to play games right now.”

“Games? Have you been torturing my men again?”

“Daddy! What are you doing here? I thought you were out of town.” The intimidating figure walked across the room and pulled up the blind. She shut her eyes to the light and burrowed her face deeply into her pillow.

“I came home a little early because I wanted to see my baby girl.”

“What’s going on daddy?”

“What? I have to have a reason to see my daughter now?”

“Business always comes first, remember? So obviously something big is happening.”

“Smart girl. I was going to wait until you were a little more… awake. But since you’ve figured me out I might as well tell you.”

“Tell me what?”

“You’re getting married.” Air rushed out of her lungs and she was now fully alert. Her father’s early home coming had raised an alarm in her head but never in her wildest dreams had she imagined that he would marry her off the same way her mother had been.

“WHAT?! To whom?” She managed to blurt out, still trying to regain her senses.

“Aaron.”

“Aaron? That stiff! Is this even legal? I’m seventeen!”

“Of course it’s legal, as long as you have parental permission. Aaron is a fine young man.” She should have known that it would have been to his top hit man; it would have to be someone who would be able to protect her. Her daddy was in a dangerous line of work and family was always fair game.

“Daddy? Get out of my room.”

Dallas sat on an almost empty city bus on her way down town. She knew that the guy sitting in the back in the leather coat and the kid in the tracksuit two seats down from her were on her pay roll. They always tried to be as inconspicuous as possible but she could always pick them out anyways. She slipped her headphones on and hit play on her mp3 player. She may be right but she did her best not to show it. She wore a threadbare Flogging Molly shirt and an old pair of dickie pants along with a pair of combat boots she’d picked up at the Sally-Anne for $10. No more than an hour ago her father had pulled her into his study and given her the skinny on her marriage. The ceremony was to take place at city hall at noon two days from now and would be followed by a feast with all of his employees and associates. After that she would go with Aaron to his home where she would be living from then on. He’d informed her that she had to stay married to him for six months and then the marriage would be over. She didn’t get the point in that but he wouldn’t say any more before giving her his credit card and sending her off to buy herself something nice to wear for the wedding.

As the bus traveled along the highway Dallas’s thoughts turned to Aaron, her husband to be. She had only seen him up close a few times and had never had a formal conversation with him. He had always been one of her father’s goons. What she knew of him was that he never said much and never seemed to be in a very good mood. He was tall and lanky but very well built. He was very intimidating and quite frankly scared her, which was not very easy. Living with him for the next six months was not something she was looking forward too. This summer break was turning into a real bust. Now she had to break up with her boyfriend and break the news to her best friend. That was what she was on her way to do now. First she had to find away to lose her ‘friends’.
