Girls’ Night Out
One day, meticulously planned
With giddy intentions,
We’ll all go out together;
We’ll go out late at night
And quench the squirming insects
Eating the lining of our stomachs.
High heels and strings of yellow pearls,
Transformed by the lies we paint on our faces
And spray on our neck and wrists,
Worn like a necessary accessory,
A rhinestone mask—
We’ll be dazzled by the lights
And swayed by the horrid music,
Until we finally stumble outside
In all of our to-the-nines glory,
Completely hammered with excitement and expensive alcohol,
Laughing and squealing with fabricated bliss,
Only to get hit by a speeding car.
