Elegy to Fuyodol

Welcome home

Nobody says that

To an exile

And means it

Except maybe the man with the clipboard

Pointing

To the way out

Welcome home

Is something they say

When they drag you through the exit

And change the background music

To something more somber

More... fuyodol

When you complain

That it sounds like the national anthem on speed

Welcome home

Is written on the back of a one way ticket

Or a piece of paper saying

'Cause For Concern'

In triplicate

As you wander the corridors of your youth

Ad infinitum

On that lonely road in the rain

And you carry on walking until you can't see it even in your dream

Welcome Home

It says on the train

You have your own seat there

You wrote it on the back;

Doran Was Here

A kind of low key first class

Bound For Motavia; getting on?

Welcome Home

Is what you used to look for in the post

In the newspaper

You even used to look at the birds

To see if they had messages tied to their feet

It made you want to scream; the madness

As the empty space became a straight line to an island

But it became a kind of soft, pixellated melancholy

When you realised

That there was no

Going

Home.
