Sakura by the-key-of-the-twilight

A/N: Hello everyone! This is going to be my first story on ! My writing skills aren’t very good, but I hope all of you enjoy it! Well, here goes…

Prologue: A woman sat… In a lone room… Peering into a majestic crystal ball…

Long ago,” she spoke,

There was a great war across the land,”

It was a chaotic war between Humans and the Devil…”

Because of this war, the land was weakened and many lands fell into the sea,”

Or rose up into the glorious sky…”

Finally, the Humans ended this war with difficulty,”

And locked the Devil’s power with it’s own writing…”

However, the Devil did not completely perish,”

For, his Children still sleep, but will soon awaken…”

The woman rose from her spot and stared out the forlorn window.

The war will start once again,”

Unless one learns to change fate…”

Become who you really are,”

My dear, Sanga…”

The steps seemed to continue on forever as Sanga trotted her way upward. The stairway was like an endless spiral. She followed the man in front of her and looked down as she proceeded. She passed by a small barred window, where the moon’s luminous light shone. She halted suddenly, without knowing, and stared out into the window. The moon looked so pure and serene. It beautiful glow reflected off her dull grey hair. The nighttime breeze blew at her and her twin blonde strands of hair flowed. The wind was strong and a storm would come.

“Hurry up!” the man shouted and turned around and crossed his muscular arms to reveal his face. He was surely a masculine, brutal-looking man. The look in his brown eyes, however, was calm and gentle-like. Scars were carved into his face from past battles and he wore heavy mail and metal. His cloak gave him a more mysterious look. He bore a sword upon his back. “Do you have ears? I said ‘hurry up’!” he shouted impatiently. The sad-looking girl turned to him briskly.

“Y- yes, Master Scorpio,” she stammered, “P- please wait.” She tried to catch up to him as fast as she could, but in the process, she fell. A strong hand caught her.

“Be careful.”

“Y- yes, Master,” Sanga said and flushed with embarrassment. She quickly got to her feet and loosened Scorpio’s grasp upon her arm. They continued their way. Then, the man sighed.

“Why must you call me ‘Master’ all the time? You call Aquarius ‘Madam’! You’re way too proper for your age!” he pointed out to her.

“But I am sixteen. Isn’t that old enough? Master?” The man put his hand to his forehead.

“Oh, forget I asked.” The girl hesitated for a moment, but then gathered the courage to speak.

“Well, I am a cursed child. So, I think you need respect to even think about caring for me. Countless people have rejected me and I feel obliged to help you in any way,” she timidly explained and played with her hair in the process.

“Well, guess what?”

“What is it?”

“You can help me by walking a little faster!” he said. Sanga gave a little yelp and started trotting once again up the stairs.

“Well, we’re here!” Scorpio exclaimed as he stepped into the top room. Sanga was just glad she wasn’t on the stairs anymore. A thin woman stood, leaning against the wall.

“About time you arrived!” the woman shouted and stared fiercely with her crimson eyes into Scorpio’s. “What took you so long?”

“Well, some endless circles of stairs and a few monsters to take care off,” he replied, almost mockingly. The woman got off her comfortable position on the wall and walked toward the two. Her long blue ponytail slightly mopped the ground and her voluptuous figure made her an attractive female. Unlike Scorpio’s, her gaze was fierce and violent. She was a very impatient woman and her attitude reflected that. She wore a short skirt and long boots that did not provide much protection. Aquarius strictly pointed to a wall behind her with engraved symbols on it. Scorpio led Sanga to the wall. The grim girl stared at the wall and with her graceful hand; she felt the crevices in which the symbols were engraved.

“This is… this is the writing of the Devil,” she spoke finally, in a silent and gothic tone. Her two comrades gasped. However, later, Scorpio had a smile on his face.

“I guess we were lucky to have you. No one else can read them, right? Only the Children of the Devil can,” he said. Aquarius was more serious about the current matter.

“Can you read and intercept it? If you can’t, then we’re absolutely lost,” she said to remind Sanga of her job. The girl nodded and observed every inch of the wall. She felt it over and over again, as if she was searching for something. Several minutes passed and not a word peeped out of Sanga. It was a pretty long time and Aquarius was getting impatient. “Is something wrong? What’s taking so long?” Scorpio then shook his head toward her. “What?”

“Don’t you know? To be able to read that, she has to be a Child of the Devil. She hates it. Imagine, from the day you were born, if you knew that you were a cursed child. A cursed child bears misfortune wherever she goes. It’s not easy,” he explained. Afterwards, Aquarius sighed.

“I guess you’re right. We’re even much luckier than she is. Poor thing; she’s all alone in her little world,” she said. Then, Sanga abruptly turned around. “Are you finished?” The silent girl nodded. She began to read:

Wielder of Earth’s Might,

Give birth to the trees and the lifeless land,

I call upon you,

To…”

Suddenly, the whole room began to shake. Pieces of rock came tumbling down and the walls bore cracks. Sanga screamed as a huge boulder came tumbling at her. She quickly dodged it and successfully evaded it without harm.

“What the heck is going on?!” Aquarius shouted.

“I don’t know! It must be a reaction of some type!” Scorpio answered.

“What did we do? What’s wrong?”

“Stop worrying! We need to get out of here!” he reminded her. The man grabbed her arm and dragged her toward the doorway and down the stairs. Sanga was not far behind. “Do hurry!” The three ran as fast as their legs could carry them while dodging flying objects in the air. The girl screamed as a wall collapsed in front of her. “Hurry!” She quickly leaped over the debris and continued chasing after Scorpio and Aquarius.

Then, they were in front of a bridge. Fog crept up onto the edges and mist blocked everything from view. The wind was harsh and the creaking of the old wooden bridge could be heard. The rushing sounds of the raging waves beneath could be heard as well. Suddenly, a violent crash interrupted the quiet atmosphere.

“What do we do?!” Aquarius shouted, but most of her voice was lost in the wind.

“We have to cross this bridge! It’s the only way!” Scorpio cried.

“Sanga, you go first!”

“What?! Have you gone mad?! She’ll die!”

“Whatever! Sanga, go now!”

“But…”

“It’s her fault! She’s a cursed child! It’s all her fault!” That’s right… , Sanga thought, It’s always been that way… I always bring misfortune upon people… that is my curse… She then stood as tall as she could, and cautiously proceeded onto the bridge. The old wooden thing creaked after every little step the young girl took. It shook violently in the wind and Sanga grasped tightly to the frail ropes that held it. She fought against the wind as she continued to step forward. However, due to her curse, she slipped on the moist bridge.

Luckily, she managed to hang on the bridge with her left hand. She screamed for help, but no one could hear her in the noisy area. She screamed and screamed, but no one came to her aid. Her hand was slipping and tears came to her eyes, but were dried up by the breeze.

“Scorpio! Aquarius! Please help!!” she shrieked. Then, she saw a figure coming towards her. It was Scorpio. Sanga’s face brightened for a moment, but little did she notice that the figure was not Scorpio.

“Scorpio and Aquarius are dead! Begone!” the figure commanded and pried the poor girl’s fingers off the bridge. She heard herself scream and the violent waters underneath.

It had all happened so fast. It was hard to explain. First, she was falling and it seemed like time had slowed down. Then, she felt cold, as cold as everlasting ice. She felt herself losing her breath and water flowing into her lungs. She tried to reach the surface, but the fierce ocean kept her from salvation. However, she did manage to see something above the water.

There was an angel; a beautiful angel who flew around anxiously and looked around. Then, right behind him, a dark angel with black wings appeared and tried the strangle the white angel, but failed to do so. They fought and fought viciously with their own angelic mana. The white angel became greatly injured and Sanga swore she thought the angel had looked at her with pity.

“Sanga!!” She heard his voice and then everything became black…
