Sakura by the-key-of-the-twilight

A/N: Hello everyone! Yep, it’s been another long while. Now with school getting in the way again, I have less time to write and less time to do other things as well. I hope all of you understand! Sorry about the frequent long delays!

Keaira: Wow, you’re quite observant! I guess I wasn’t thinking when I mentioned Richie’s sword! Well, I’ll just say that his sword, oddly enough, wasn’t taken away… somehow…

Chapter 12: The Man with Two Different Eyes

Faint footsteps echoed throughout the desolate corridors in momentum like a metronome. Sanga froze suddenly and her eyes darted nervously to the left. She was nearly positive she had seen a shadow flicker by. After several minutes of being nearly terrified to death, Sanga finally took a deep breath and continued on. It wasn’t long until she came across a separate room and halted before a stone door with a picture of a mighty lion engraved on it. She spun around and fretfully searched for a place to hide for the footsteps were growing louder. Without much hope, she darted over to a corner that was engulfed by shadows and stood as still as a statue.

A soft light entered the room. Sanga held her breath as two men stepped inside the room. Her hands grew pale and shook violently against her sides. They’re wearing uniforms. They must be soldiers. One of the men held out his lantern and glanced at his surroundings. Sanga was relieved that he had merely skimmed the area and missed her since she was well hid in the shadows.

“Sheesh! Why did they have to make this place so damn dark?” the soldier with the lantern spat. “What idiots!” The other soldier nudged him in the arm. “What?”

“Stop complaining. It’s not helping,” the other said. “C’mon, let’s get out of here.” If it weren’t for the tense situation she was currently in, Sanga would have paid more attention to the familiarity of the voices. The soldiers walked to the door, and in the process, Sanga noticed that the second soldier bore a huge bag across his back. It’s probably his arsenal. The thought made her shiver. The first soldier inserted a card in a slot near the door and almost magically, the stone door opened with a slow rumble. The two men marched inside.

A quick decision had to be made for Sanga. Should I follow them? If I follow them, I might be caught and I’ll be killed. But if I just stay here, I’ll never get anywhere! She anxiously looked around as if the answer to her question lay somewhere in the room, but to no avail, she had to find the answer herself. The door’s going to close soon! So, should I just stay here and hope that Richie comes for me, or should I go? Sweat rolled down her face. What should I do? She glanced at the stone door that was still open and tightened her fist. I’ll go then!

She forced herself away from the cowardly corner of the room and fled for the door. And right after her body had passed the door, she heard a rumble in which signaled that the door had closed. Sanga was just in time.

Richie stepped into a room and observed his surroundings. He was glad to finally come across a room instead of trekking endlessly in a dark corridor. The room looked as if it was a storeroom since it was filled with crates and barrels. After scanning the room for anything interesting (in which he found none), he turned around and decided to head back to find Sanga. However, right before he left, something in the corner caught his eye. He bent down and picked up a worn-out jacket. Wasn’t this the jacket Sanga was wearing? Richie looked back at his sword. I guess the reason why the soldiers didn’t take my sword and my stuff was because they were intimidated by my weapon. What cowards. He lifted the piece of clothing and uncovered bottles of pills. He gasped and examined one of them. These are definitely Kilo’s. I better give these back quick. He stuffed them in his pockets and slung Sanga’s jacket over his back. After equipping everything, he raced out the door, hoping to find his companions soon.

Bright light was the first thing she saw as she stepped out of the gloomy dungeon. She suddenly gasped and hid behind a rock statue, for she had realized that she was now in the first floor of a castle. Sanga scanned the room for the two soldiers, but all she saw were knights dressed in full armor and gallant looking gentlemen and ladies. She swallowed and suddenly leaped up from her hiding spot and bounded toward the front door of the castle. As she finally made it past the doors, she inhaled the fresh air outside. She was pleased to finally be outdoors instead of that moist and putrid dungeon. All of a sudden, she spotted the two soldiers at the corner of her eye. Sanga didn’t know why, but she wanted to follow them since she thought the soldiers suspicious. And so, she trailed them.

The two soldiers walked briskly through the courtyard and toward the front gate. Sanga went after them and strolled no further than three feet away from them. However, when she came to the gate, one of the guards brought down his javelin and demanded her identity. Sanga stammered and was speechless. One of the soldiers turned around.

“San-?” Before he could finish speaking, the other soldier jabbed him in the stomach.

“She’s with us. We’re going to try to get her to work for one of the shopkeepers in town,” the other soldier explained. Sanga was completely surprised that the soldier was helping her. Does he even know who I am? The guard bent down and examined the girl in rags.

“She looks mighty familiar to me. Wait, is she-”

“No, it’s just that her hair’s been faded from those blasted dungeons,” the soldier interrupted. “Now let her pass. You’re delaying us.” With an irritable snort, the guard raised his javelin and allowed Sanga passage. She hurried and ran to the soldiers, afraid of the guard’s menacing glare. One of them took her by the arm and the three of them marched off silently. After a minute of walking, and when they were safe from anyone’s view, one of the soldiers turned around and pulled off his cap. Sanga gasped as red hair emerged from it. He grinned.

“Red?” Sanga asked, not believing her luck. “You were Red all along?” She turned around at the other soldier who had his cap off as well. “And you’re Kilo?” The blond boy silently nodded. “But how?”

“We were kidnapped as well, but we managed to break out of our cell, get some of our belongings, knock two soldiers unconscious, and obtain an authentication card key,” Kilo explained and took the card from his pocket. “So, where’s Richie? I expected him to be with you.” Suddenly, Sanga’s expression became glum and so lowered her head.

“We parted ways. I’m… I’m not sure where he is now,” she spoke sullenly. “I’m sorry.” Red patted her on the shoulder.

“It’s nothin’ to worry about. Richie’s a man; he can do things by himself,” Red exclaimed cheerfully. He put his cap back on. “Anyways, I see you haven’t retrieved your things. Here.” He fished in his bag and took out a quiver and a bow. Sanga nodded in gratitude. “We found them in a storage room as we made our way out.” He then turned to Kilo and frowned, but said nothing.

“Where were you heading?” Sanga questioned.

“We’re now in Aeroglyph,” Kilo stated. “This and Contiga are the largest city in all of Daera. We’re actually quite far from Oborro right now, but fortunately, we’re close to Quarera, which is Red’s hometown. The people there welcome us and we’ll be able to rest there… for… a while.” Suddenly, his voice became strained and his hands clenched into fists.

“K- Kilo? Are you okay?” she asked nervously and watched him carefully. He clasped his hands over his mouth and began coughing violently just like the time Sanga had first seen him. He toppled over and Sanga caught him in her arms. Sweat accumulated on his temple and his whole body shook. “Kilo?”

“He hasn’t had his medicine when he should have had them several hours ago. We didn’t manage to find his pills when we escaped. Take him to the shade and let him rest,” Red commanded and Sanga obeyed. She brought the ill boy over to the shade and tried to soothe him to the best of her abilities. Oddly enough, his shaking decreased and he opened his eyes halfway as Sanga laid his head against her lap. A groan escaped his lips and he closed his eyes tight.

“I’m an idiot…” Sanga heard Red murmur to himself in the corner. He had placed a hand to his head and shook his head. “I can’t have Kilo die here…” Sanga frowned and looked down upon the pale boy. “What am I gonna do…?”

Richie stopped dead in his tracks. He gazed onward into the darkness where he had heard soft footsteps. The footsteps grew louder and louder until Richie could see a figure moving towards him. His right hand grasped for the hilt of his sword and he readied himself, throwing his extra burdens beside him. He had a feeling that his encounter would not be a good one.

Finally, the figure stepped out of the darkness and came to view. Richie pulled out his sword at the character’s appearance and glared at him. Angry azure eyes reflected off his blade.

“Whoa, whoa,” his visitor nervously said and tossed back his long braided cerulean hair. “Why so forward, my young man?”

“You’re trouble,” Richie snapped back. “I can sense it.”

“Trouble? Oh no, no,” he replied and stared at the boy with one yellow, cat-like eye and one sapphire eye. “You see, I’m not one of those soldiers.”

“Then you’re with that guy I met earlier?” Richie retorted.

“Oh, you mean Gadna? Yeah, I’m with him,” he answered cheerfully. “Huh… so where are you going?” However, before Richie could reply, his enemy sprang forward and with a loud clang, their swords met. Richie jumped back from the aftershock. He’s fast! Richie thought bitterly to himself.

“My, you’re quite swift, little man,” he laughed, “but not fast enough!” With another sudden burst of energy, the man charged at Richie and once again, their swords met. The man was strong, Richie had to admit, but he promised he wouldn’t lose to someone like this. The two leaped back to catch their breath, but shortly after, continued fighting. After a flurry of swords crashing into another, Richie’s opponent retreated and slipped his sword back into its scabbard. After seeing no other reaction, Richie did the same. His opponent laughed.

“You’re quite good, little man, but you have room to improve,” he stated. “I wasn’t going all-out so don’t take me lightly. I was just merely testing you.”

“Why? You’ve just wasted a good amount of my time,” Richie shot back. “Now if you don’t mind, I’ll be leaving…” He picked up the things he had thrown aside before the battle and walked past the man.

“Do you know what white wings mean?” his opponent asked. Richie halted for a moment. “White wings mean purity, hope, and salvation in the eyes of a Child. Tell this to your ill-fated friend and he should find that interesting…” And without another word, the two of them parted ways.

A/N: Well, that’s the end of Chapter 12! Yeah, it’s been a long time since I’ve updated since I’ve been extremely busy during the summer. I hope my writing skills have improved after reading a few novels. Before I forget, here’s the bio for Shraska. (It’s actually more detailed than all my other ones so far.)

Name: Shraska Mage

Age: 21

Birthday: March 17th

Appearance: She has long, brown locks that reach down to her slender waist. She has emerald eyes, which are the only things she and her brother have in common.

Her past: After her mother died by giving birth to Kilo, Shraska lived with her father and her brother in a quite poor state. Her father became a hotheaded man, after his wife’s death, who loved to drink to relieve his stress and to heighten his spirits. However, because of that, her father became extremely irritable and abused Kilo since the son reminded him so much of Kilara, his wife. He never beat Shraska though and it was only she who could calm her father down after an outrage.

Most memorable event: The most memorable event in her life, excluding her mother’s death, was when Kilo was just five years old and her father stabbed him with a kitchen knife in the back. She remembered not being able to do anything while her brother lay bleeding on the floor. The event affected her greatly since she cared a lot about Kilo.

Relationships:

Sanga: Shraska is kind to Sanga. Unlike her brother, she is usually collected and calm and usually treats people with respect. Shraska believes in Sanga and trusts that she can help her brother open up.

Kilo: He is her little brother. She loves him dearly and thinks that it’s her duty to protect him at all costs. Shraska is affectionate towards her brother, but lately, she’s been receiving no signs of affection back. This worries her.

Richie/Red: She’s been helping them out for years. Ever since they became friends with Kilo, she’s welcomed them into her home like family. The two usually stay at Shraska’s and she looks over them like a mother. She loves them just as much as she does Kilo.

Wow, that was a long one… Next bio will probably be about Arche and Rita (I know, Arche’s dead, but he still deserves a bio…) Well, please review and I’ll be real glad!
