"The Cremation of a Dead Friendship"

Before popularity or guys,
Before makeup or hair,
Before all of that
In the days of "I don’t care"
There lived two kids,
A calamitous pair.
The kind of friendship they had
Was very rare.

They did everything together;
They threw rocks and climbed trees.
They ran in the woods.
They skipped in the breeze.
They didn’t care if they got their shoes wet,
Or got dirt on their knees.
They jumped and danced
Whenever they pleased.

One was always there for the other
Through good times and bad.
They comforted each other
When they were sad.
If one asked for help,
The other was always glad.
Even if they fought,
They were never truly mad.

Although these girls
Were inseparable friends,
It seems like those days
Were at an end.
One became an outcast,
The other got a boyfriend.
They had grown apart in many ways,
It just depended.

And so on this road they took
There was an awful crash.
It happened so quickly-
Like a flash.
One was just thrown away
Like yesterdays trash.
And all that’s left of this friendship
Is the ash.
