Glass Wings

One day, when the sun became too blinding

I let myself fall, thinking

Who says that the top is the place to be?

The sky will be just as blue from below

And so I crashed to the earth

All concerns cast aside, the apathy of an angel

You, however, lifted me back up

And sat me on a cloud that rolled like the ocean

Shh, you told me, it’ll be alright

When I hadn’t even realized I’d been crying

Even though you knew you couldn’t make it better

You turned me to face the sun again

And set on my shoulders a pair of glass wings

Let me see you fly again, you whispered

I promise I won’t let you fall, you said

I trusted you, and so I jumped

Your words may have led me back into the clouds

But beautiful as such a promise is

These wings are only made of glass

And one day, if the sun becomes too blinding

Or if I get lost in the wind or the rain

I’m afraid that I might fall again

That your precious wings might be broken
