Written about a friend

What Mommy Did

Mommy made me cry today,
Not for the first time
“Sticks and stones may break my bones…”
The adage is a lie

She calls me warped
And says I’m wrong
And I am simply
Not quite strong

Enough that I can’t help but feel
Like the scum of the earth
“I thought I had raised you better”
Just destroys my self-worth

My friends say I’ve done nothing wrong,
My mom is too restrictive
They feel sad for me, and worried for me
And some feel quite vindictive

But I won’t stand up
I won’t fight her
I’m used to being
Walked all over

Mommy made me cry today,
Not for the first time
