Reverie Reality
Ellen Smith sat on the floor of her parents’ apartment, feeling completely and utterly bored. Her mother and father had left her alone again and there was absolutely nothing to do. She’d seen all the shows the channel blocker would let her see, and she’d played with all the games and toys available in the house. Without a doubt, Ellen was the most bored child in the world at that moment.
‘Oh well,’ Ellen thought, standing up and walking to her room. ‘I guess I could play with Cubbie again.’
Cubbie had been Ellen’s bear since the day she was born. Eight years later, she still slept with him every night, but he was starting to bore her. There was only so long you could have a toy before the ‘fun’ ran out and it seemed Cubbie had reached his limit.
But Ellen was so bored she really didn’t care how much ‘fun’ he was; it was better than sitting around doing nothing.
Pulling Cubbie out of her toy box, Ellen started to play, soon forgetting how ‘unfun’ Cubbie was. She created a world where bears were ‘people’; they had jobs, drove cars, lived in houses, went to school. There were Mama bears, and Papa bears, and Uncle bears, and Grandma bears, and third cousin twice removed bears; there were bears of every shape, size, and disposition. In fact, even though they were fuzzy and brown, it was almost impossible to distinguish them from humans.
