CH 3 – Kyla: An Exception to the Rule…A Bonafide Rarity
-I just fucking went up here- Kyla thought angrily as she half-ran to the front office of the school from the second time that day. -what the hell else could they blame me of…I didn’t pull the fire alarm last Friday and I didn’t do the graffiti…they need to find a new scape-goat-
Kyla glanced up from her thoughts to see a gorgeous guy sitting on the small bench next to the office. Kyla smirked sexily at him as she whisked by. Probably some new kid’s older brothershe thought knowing all to well that hot guys did not go to their school. -Naw- she scoffed -not Patriot Middle School-
“Good morning, Kyla,” the vice-Principal smiled at her.
“Good morning, Mrs. Angland, how are you,” Kyla somehow said with a straight face.
“I’m very good, Kyla, and I have something very exciting to tell you,” Mrs. Angland said as her insanely cheesy smile got impossibly bigger.
Kyla winced at the sight but kept up an equally cheesy countenance -doesn’t that hurt her face…exciting, huh?…so is she going to let me go home…that WOULD be exciting- a genuine smile appeared on Kyla’s face at the thought.
Mrs. Angland obviously thought it was her “exciting” information that had lit up Kyla’s eyes. “Please follow me,” she said as she walked briskly out of her office into the main hallway. There sat the beautiful boy from earlier looking meek as ever. “Say hello to your new buddy, Mr. Raynold. This is Miss Fali,” Mrs. Angland keep smiling as she said all of this, “I’ll give you two the rest of this period to get acquainted.” She then walked back into her office
“Wow,” Kyla laughed as Mrs. Angland all but slammed her door shut.
“What,” enquired a gravelly baritone voice that sounded like it came from a twenty year old. It slightly startled Kyla.
She held out her hand anyway, “Soy Kylota Rosa Fali pero se llama Kyla.” Kyla smiled – she couldn’t help it. It was too hard not to speak Spanish to the new, confused and overwhelmed students. ‘Mr. Raynold’ looked like he was torn between being turned on and running away.
“I’m Kyla,” Kyla restated sweetly.
“Brendon,” the boy said distractedly.
Kyla decided to get a good look at him while he wasn’t in their world. Light brown hair fell to about mid-neck, left ear pierced, deep set, hazel eyes made up a adorable face. He wore a black leather jacket, baggy, black pants and a black tshirt with ‘I have Issues” written on it. -hmmm…KoRn…- Kyla thought.
“A bonafide rarity,” she smiled to herself.
That phrase seemed to snap him back. “Incubus – A Crow Left of Murder – ‘Southern Girl,’ ” Brendan stated as though it was a simple question with an easier answer.
“You kill me well,” Kyla said.
“Hawthorne Heights – The Silence in Black and White – ‘Ohio is for Lovers,’ ” he practically rolled his eyes as he said it.
“If these pills could, they would call my name,” Kyla smirked. He wouldn’t know this one.
There was a pause as Brendan seemed to be racking his brain and slowly a smile slid across his face, “Bleeding Through – This is Love, This is Murderous – ‘Mutilation,’ ”
“I took a bus out of Coca-Cola city, cause it made me feel all nauseous and shitty,” Kyla challenged.
A long pause…and nothing.
“I WIN” Kyla shouted, “lets go, pet, I’ll show you around.” Kyla skipped off knowing all too well that pretty boy….er…Brendan was behind her. -This year is gonna be interesting- she thought as she slowed at waited for Brendan to catch up.
