I held his body

a numbing caress

one that,

would never end

the icy water

high above

washing over,

swallowing us

salt tears

mixed with

salt water

warmth without depth

hands deadened

and unfeeling are

his lips, when

placed upon mine

a bittersweet goodbye

roaring waves

cut

out all sound

yet,

the muttered words

against my ear

are heard with a

distinct meaning

I return the words

with equal signification

the same words

we could never

utter in life

are now the one

we proclaim in death

'I love you'
