Something Lost

By: Lauren

Suddenly,

For a moment,

My soul is stripped bare

I can feel a wind stir inside me

I’ve never felt so vulnerable before

No walls to hide behind

Nothing standing between you and me

Crushed against the backboard

I can’t move, I can’t breathe

A tiny part of me breaks

A crack in my mask,

In my heart

Moments, memories,

Flashing before my eyes

Time is flying, stopping and spinning

Is this really you?

My mind is running rampant

Human emotions and feelings going wild

Then it stops

And the moment is past

In that brief minute,

Something was lost,

Something was gained

Something significant occurred

I don’t quite know what

But I do know that things are changed

My walls are wounded and leaking

For better or for worse
