Black Out

It’s late evening in the city,

The sun has finally slowed down.

All the birds and trees are resting

But there is no rest downtown.

The cars are zooming past

To catch reruns of “Yours, Mine, Ours”.

The sky is on fire with a dark, tinged glow,

The city lights hiding all the stars.

The sun no longer hovers above,

Yet the buildings are still lit.

Only a single pair of eyes

Decides the light has got to quit.

Someone walks into the building

Where people labor to supply

A steady flow of energy

To light the city sky.

The lights go off

And pandemonium ensues.

The city is in darkness, black covers

Consuming the dirty orange hues.

But all is silent, for a moment

When eyes turn to the sky.

The city is showered in white light

From the moon up high.
