Hope dawns

As a new blossom

Opens her petals to the sun

Standing tall

Her vibrant colours

Sing out to the world

Songs of joy

Songs of fortune

And her naivety goes on unscorned,

Unchallenged

As time passes

delicate petals

begin to bruise,

victims of age

and mistreatment

Her songs begin to fade

voice weary

with the realisation that the world

is not all she once thought

She fights against

the intolerance

of the universe,

a battle

she is doomed to lose

The age-old enemy

called Time

consumes her,

petals wilting

then shrivelling

Her life ends slowly

So much for the joy of the world.
