Night Walkers

By Lia Star

They wake after dark
Their faces blurred
Their eyes unfocused
Their mission clear

They prepare themselves
Applying false identity
Hiding their ugly interior
Betraying those who know them

They go into the night
Blending with the shadows
Waiting for the perfect moment
A moment allowing them to strike

Unnatural beings, these night walkers
Preying on the innocents in life
Coveting those nearest them
Protecting, yet constantly using them

We tell ourselves, deny them
Never acknowledge their existance
Do everything we can
To protect ourselves from them

They cause corruption
Damning their victims
To an everlasting hell
Yet they defy death

They serve no god
Having damned themselves
Forever living, never aging
A curse and blessing

They move between lives
Unable to really exist
Never able to fully experience
Life in its extreme

They survive and exist
Only by preying on others
Needing innocents for relief
From their growing hunger

Even the more dangerous preditor
Cowers before them in fear
Acknowledging their power
Having seen their kind for centuries

The moon and darkess
Befriend them
Their only allies
In a world like theirs

Creatures without souls
Forsaking any previous god
All things considered holy
Are the bane of their existance

They are night walkers
Beings either worshipped or feared
A symbol for ultimate evil
Never dying, always present.
