It was when the full moon was out, and its lunar glow made the night blossoms shine. Midnight had come and gone and the two of them had sat up in the tower for nearly three days, never eating or sleeping.
Simply staring into the eyes of each other.
"I love you," He'd one day said. She nodded and returned in tears, "and I you."
There was but one problem - they hadn't learned to carry out the love they shared. Not to the extent that a pair of kingly fathers and queens should accept.
So there they sat, searching for the love their parents had so declared. All the while, the moon slid across the diamond filled sky.
She spoke like smooth silk, "Do you love me yet?"
The boy shook his head. "I'm sorry I do not, and do you love me?"
She too shook her head. "This is what they want, we must do this for them. After all, our kingdoms are all that's left of this country and without the family's continuation, we will be ruined."
"But why force upon us love. Could you live to bare my child?"
"Of course I could, I could bare to have any child for my mother and father."
"Maybe this is the sort of love we were sent to find in this tower. Perhaps we weren't to love each other but our families - not warm embraces and kisses from one another, but our countries and the continuation of our life."
To that, she smiled and nodded. "I believe you're right - I believe we've found love!"
They conceived that very night.

They stayed in that tower for several more months and both families were growing tired. If not for the fact the kingdom would be leaderless both parents would have died right there on the throne.
Finally a messenger arrived at their feet full of energy and harked, "They have found love - and a child!"
For the first time in nine months and three weeks, the parents arose and not walked but ran to the entrance of the tower. As they neared they saw the girl with the tiny shape of a baby in her arms. The boy stood next to her with a smile on his face.
"You have found love!" The parents exclaimed, before falling dead where they stood. The pair of kids had no idea how to react, until the messenger appeared and said -
"They've been fighting fate for many months now. Finally you found love, and freed them of this battle. Truly a great deed! But what is this child's name?"
The girl was sobbing but squeaked, "Marcus."

These two parents had mourned their families in separate affairs, and then neither spent time with each other. He was always off attending to economy, and she to war. Both exercised the love for their people to the fullest.
There was just one member of the kingdom they had neglected.
Marcus disappeared in one of the nights. Not just disappeared, but was abducted. Neither found out about this ever.
Until one day, when she was attacking an enemy to conquer lands, a general appeared on the field. He declared himself Ursa, and was a wicked creature. Like a shadow he tore through the enemy on his own, slaying hundreds. Finally he met her and the two glared each other down. She stood defiantly and he cut her down without remorse, for he had never met her.
He led his armies through the streets right to the man who was his birthfather, and he too was struck down.

Fifteen years later, when he was training his troops, word came from a messenger that his birthparents were found, for he remembered them not and asked that someone seek them out for him.
A parchment was unrolled, and the words spoken.
"They were buried fifteen years ago among the dead of our enemies."
His men gaped at him, a few in awe and some in fear. What would he do with this new information?
Ursa lifted his blade - higher and higher, and then jabbed it - straight into the ground.
"Then I have no parents, nor ever did besides those who helped train me. Continue your exercises then return home. I'll let you decide. Would you love yourselves, your country, your children? Who knows, but only return if you'll answer with heartfelt truth"
None understood the question - and none returned. After all, what was love to them but a word? They were married to woman they scarcely knew.
