Time Stood Still

Out on a rainy Saturday night

Watching the Festival of Lights

With a group of girlfriends

Having the time of my life.

A boy tapped on my shoulder

And offered me fries

Time stood still

I sank in his eyes

The blue boiled bubbles in a heart-yet-to-fill;

Time still stood still.

Black perfection of his hair swayed

But time stood still

And I felt nervous in a weird way.

I couldn’t remember anything

And yet I felt everything

As the time stood still.

The math equations

The history dates

The English words

They all had to fade.

When the time stood still

It is only me and him.

We dance in the rain

And sing at the top of our lungs.

It stops raining suddenly;

I’m forgetting what we sung.

Time stopped standing still

While rainbows formed over a hill.

I paid him a dollar for the fries

And my heart ran a mile

When he left with a smile.
