You laugh and you hug me

And whisper my name

And claim

You will never

Ever

Leave me again

And I close my eyes

Peacefully

Believing all that you said

And then I open

My eyes

And you’re not there

Anymore.

And I weep

And sniff a bit

And a tear rolls down my cheek

Balancing threateningly upon my chin

Nearly falling off

Then you come along

And wipe my tears

And tell me not to cry

You

With your sunshine and smiles

Your laughter, your eyes

Your comfort, your love

Your sweet smell of clove.

And you hug me

And you kiss me

And say you’re sorry

And promise

You’ll never leave me

And I believe you.
