Fairy Tale Love

You were my Happily Ever After,
You were my Once Upon a Time.
We thought it was forever,
But we couldn’t complete the rhyme.

All I wanted was a fairy tale love.
Whisked away on horseback,
Eyes brighter than the skies above.
But there’s no happy ending for a heart with a crack.

What happened to the stories?
Of princes and white horses?
Of loves marvelous glories,
We’re both on different courses.

You’re not the prince I thought you were.
I’m not the princess you seek.
You’re not dashing or debonair for sure.
And I’m anything but meek.

I couldn’t make you happy,
You couldn’t satisfy my urge.
Why is love so sappy?
Of each other we must purge.

I guess this is my ending.
No glamour to it at all.
For my heart there is no mending,
Oh how the mighty fall.
