Some memories
Do not give way so easily
Because I'm holding on so tight
Holding on, you might say, for dear life
I cannot let your shadows go
When everything is insubstantial

I'd never ask to hold your hand again
Such things are Not Done
But I can still gently regret
Everything I ever did to hurt you
And apologies that took too long,
And eccentricities that were adorable
Until they tore us apart

My poetry will never be as good as yours
Will never move anyone

So much as your words move me to tears.
