I looked down at the Earth and he looked up at me

He sighed and he said, “I’m sorry.”

I shook my head and looked up at the sky,

Then looked at the mountains that towered nearby.

He decided to apologize to me once more,

But I turned and looked down at the river’s shore.

Then at the great trees in the dark green forest.

I stared at them a moment for they looked their best

The Earth tried to explain, but I ignored his voice.

“I don’t want to hear it. You made your choice.”

The Earth looked hurt, but said nothing

So I listened to the wind whistle and the birds sing.

Then I looked at the ground where my flower lay.

The beautiful flower that the Earth had made.

I turned to the Earth as he begged for forgiveness.

I interrupted him, though, to say this,

“It’s all your fault, no matter what you say.

Your earthquake shook the world today.

Yet you let the mountains and trees still stand.

So this answer I must demand.”

With this I almost started to cry,

“But why would you allow my flower to die?”
