I have a dream

Those famous words from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. are what made him famous. But at the same time, those are the words which cost him his life. But what exactly did Mr. King mean by those words? Were they supposed to just mean what they say? "I have a dream, and this is how I see it?" Or were they meant to be something deeper as, "I have a dream, of a better future. Not just for myself but for the future generations to come who will replace us in this world."

I believe he was going for the latter, the one which didn't just affect his generation or the one directly after that, but the far generations extending into the years that will never be seen by him. His dream was me. His dream was you. His dream was every one individual in this planet that they may hopefully come together and live together despite what the color of their skin may be. But I've noticed that there are so many who kill this dream--tear it down and stomp on it as if it were never anything. But it was something.

It was life. Not his. But ours. Ours as a human race. I never saw a point in classifying another human being as black or white or goth or jock. If anything there should be only one classification and one race: human. There's nothing more necesarry than that. Do we really need all those labels to be ourselves and celebrate what we want to celebrate? Just becuase someone is labeled a Christian, does that suddenly mean that have to celebrate Christmas? Just becuase someone wears black as the majority of their clothing choice, does that mean they suddenly have to belong to a satanic worshiping group?

But why do we wish this? Why do we care so much about who is the "better race" or has the "better religion"? What if there were no religions at all, then what would you fight about? The human race makes a huge deal about everything. And this is where I hope I can enlighten you as to some of the beliefs I have come to love in my life.

Today colors of clothing seem to "reflect" a lot of who a person is, but that isn't true.I wear black, I wear red, I wear green, I wear blue, and I wear just about every other color that attracts me to it. Not because each color seems to have a label in life, but because that particular appeals to me. Red is bright and seductive, black is dark and mysterious, blue is calm, green is joy, yellow is happy, and so on. The best color, I find, however, is black. Why is that? Have you ever taken a black marker and scribbled on a paper towel? Do so. Then once you have done that, use an eyedropper to add a couple drops of water to the marker spot. Do you notice everything the color black is made of? It is made of every color of the spectrum, not just one in particular. Earth is like that--a bunch of colors coming together to form one thing, planet Earth. But there are some people who are like the water and wish to seperate the colors it encounters.

Also, there are so many who are opposed to gay marriage. Why is it such a sin to love someone of our same sex? Is it because "opposites attract"? Has anyone ever pondered as to why there is so much depate about the topic of same-sex relationships/marriage? Why is the human race so intent on changing everyone's lives? If someone isn't straight, they are automattically summed up to be a work of the devil, or Satan as some refer to it as. But why do we call them abnormal? Who are we to define what is or is not normal? A lot of people will say "Because homosexuality is wrong, it says so in the bible." If that's the case, the bible says "Judge not, lest ye be judged." Does that not mean that God is the one who determines our rights and wrongs? Does that not mean that He is the one who decides who gets into Heaven? In the bible it also mentions that the soul has no classified gender, meaning the soul is neither male nor female. In life, do we not look for our soul mate? If we look for our soul mate, the one person who will accept us for who we are and never try to change us, then why will we let a simple physical characteristic change our view of that person? Why have so many people tried to take God's place in the judging of humans? Or did he ever have a place? I sometimes question if humans are as loyal as they say they are to their God because so many times they go against his wish or they try to do something that was not meant for them.

Another serious problem in this world is the thought that one religion is better because it may have "better morale" than another. I don't mind when someone has a religion and they stand firmly for what they believe, and I understand the Freedom of Speech gives them the right to talk about it to whomever they wish. But the Freedom of Speech is very much often abused. Your freedom is revoked when it violates the freedom of another person. "But I have a Freedom of Speech, I have the right to tell them they are doing wrong and that their religion is corrupt." No, you also have to take into consideration not just the Freedom of Speech, but also, the Freedom of Religion. We have our right as humans to choose how we want to live. We as humans have our right to choose the way we live life. It doesn't matter how its celebrated, the fact of the matter is that you're alive. Shouldn't that alone be enough to celebrate?

And what about the thought of abortion? Again, our Freedom of Choice comes to play in here. If it is not going to affect your life PERSONALLY then why does it matter if the mother wants to rid herself of the child that SHE concieved? You are not the one who will have to live with guilt, if any; the mother is. And again, so many people say it isn't right because "God gave you that child, you should take care of it." I have always been told that God knows our choices before we even make them and that he only takes a life when it is absolutely necesarry. If that is true, and if God really does exist, then that means he knows the mother will have an abortion if she gets pregnant. That means he knows the mother will choose to get rid of the child once it is in her body. But does that mean the baby will automatically be killed? A small majority of abortions end up not going through because, as most people claim, God didn't see fit for the baby to be taken back yet. So why does another woman's choice matter to you if you don't even know the woman yourself?

What is supposed to be the purpose of sex? I've always thought of it as a way of showing someone you deeply care about them. But what has it been reduced to lately? Lately it seems sex has become no more than a tool for reproduction and a way to earn money; an "argument" that gay sex is wrong. Some say that gay/lesbian sex stops a future child from being born because sex is about reproduction. Well, if that's your argument let me present mine. If you are going to say gay/lesbian sex is wrong because it prevents the birth of a child, then I guess we should also take condoms and birth control off the market. While we're at it, make hystorectomies illegal as well as getting tubes tied. And go further by forbidding anyone of the same sex from seeing each other--perhaps that will stop this gay/lesbian sex. But does any of this make sense? "Women are supposed to bear children, they're built for that!" Actually, not every woman is physically capable of giving birth. My friend's mom is quite small, 5' and around 100lbs to be exact, so when she gave birth to my friend, her first daughter, her body was incapable of doing it properly which led to a C-suction. They both nearly lost their lives that day because of an incapability to give birth properly. Another of my friend has a disease on her ovaries, which causes her ovaries to explode. The chances of her giving birth ever? Very very slim, she would have a higher chance of getting hit by lightning. And some women are just born incapable of giving birth because their body just isn't built that way. And that's just the female argument, there are also men who are incapable of inseminating a woman. So what about them? My final argument is this: if you are going to try to prevent gay/lesbian sex because it prevents the birth of a child, then why not also forbid all men and women from having sex who are incapable of bearing children?

I know these are all my opinions and I'm not trying to force anyone to see these things the way I do; I'm just hoping that maybe I can play a small in part in making this world of ours a better place. I may not be able to do much, but if I can affect one person with this little article of mine, then I feel pleased.
