A strange, short story. I wrote it for a class. EnJoY!

"The Night The Lights Went Out"

Sara walked down the dark, quiet hallway. The power had been out for hours. She shivered a bit. She wasn't afraid of the dark, it was just so quiet. She walked into her room and climbed into bed. She slid down until she was laying down. She pulled the blankets up to her chin. She closed her eyes, hoping that sleep would come to her. Creak She heard a sound. Her eyes snapped open. She scanned the dark room. There was nothing there but her imagination. She closed her eyes again. Creak She heard it again. She opened her eyes again. This time she just looked around her room. 'A shadow moved!' She thought. 'No, it's just my imagination.' She thought again. She sat up a bit, deciding that she wasn't going to be able to sleep. Over against the wall she thought she saw something again. She began to feel really uncomfortable. She reached slowly for the drawer in the table next to her bed. She opened the drawer and began to put her hand in the drawer. Suddenly she felt a cold hand on her arm...

Kara sighed and looked at the clock.
"Sara has worked here for ten years and has never been late OR missed work." She ranted at David who was sitting at the desk.
"The power was out last night, Kara, it's possible that she didn't get up on time." David said.
"I've called TEN times!" Kara exclaimed.
"Okay, if she hasn't called or showed up by lunch, we'll go see if she's okay." David said.

At ten until one, Kara and David were in David's car, heading to Sara's house.
"What if it's serious?" Kara asked.
"Kara you worry too much." David said but couldn't help but wonder. He knew Kara was right, Sara never missed a day. They pulled up in front of Sara's house. The door looked liked someone had kicked it open. David turned off the car and opened the car door.
"I'll go in first." He said. Kara stepped out of the car. She follwed David up to the front door. He pushed the door open gently.
"Sara?" He called out. There was no sound. They walked inside slowly. Nothing really looked disturbed. They slowly began walking through the small house. The house was just a one story home with just a few rooms.
"Sara?" Kara called out. Still no sound.
"Maybe she's not even home." David said. They went down the hallway. They noticed that there was only one door that was closed. David slowly reached for the doorknob. Kara held her breath as David opened the door. The door creaked open as David pushed it. Kara gasped quietly as she looked around David into Sara's room. Sara was slumped up against the side of her bed, dried blood on her head and face. David walked over to her slowly.
"She's still alive! Call 911!!" David exclaimed. Kara raced for the nearest phone. She quickly dialed the number. Once someone picked up she gave them the information they needed. Within minutes the emergancy people were there and taking Sara to the hospital.

It was several days later when Kara and David went to the hospital, they found Sara awake.
"Sara! You're awake! How are you feeling?" Kara asked, rushing over to her.
"Well, actually besides my head, I feel pretty well." Sara said, smiling at her friend.
"What happened?" David asked, now standing by the bed.
"I got a minor concussion, besides that I really am not sure. The other night, while the power was out.. I went to bed and then I kept hearing noises. I went to reach for my flashlight when I thought I felt something on my arm. It scared me and I fell out of bed. I guess I hit my head on the drawer in the table next to my bed. I guess I shouldn't have let my imagination run away with me like that." Sara said, laughing slightly.
"But what about the door, it looked like someone kicked it open?" David questioned.
"Oh wow. That door has looked like that for months. I haven't had time to get it fixed and it was open because it was warm in the house and I accidently left it open." Sara explained.
"And all that time we thought someone did it to you!!!" Kara exclaimed.
"No, it was all my fault. You shouldn't worry so much!" Sara said, laughing at her friend. All the while, Sara couldn't help btu think about how real that cold hand felt on her arm. 'It's all in your imagination.' She thought again, just shrugging it off. She would be fine and that was all that mattered, right?
