On my Shoulders

"Keep it all inside," says devil.

"Never tell a soul-

I want only the best for you,

For now you do not know.

-

"Your hackneyed ways are weary

You're wounded and you're weak.

Let me help you up the stairs

To happiness you seek."

-

Is it all this easy?

The fear inside me dies

'Till somewhere from my other side,

"No!" the angel cries.

-

"You're better and you're stronger

Than he wants you to think

Turn from His path no longer."-

The devil starts to shrink.

-

But he gets back up again

And halo locks with horn

They battle and they argue,

'Till early in the morn.

-

Eventually they both rise up

To take one final blow

With weary eyes they look to me,

Say "Choose before we go."

-

I look back and forth,

Confused to death and torn

I do not know which one is right

And which one I should scorn.

-

So then they both just sigh and leave,

I am left to self-defend

But no one every passes by-

There are no hands to lend.

-

So giving up into the gray-

A mixture dark and light-

My vain struggle to find the truth,

I let go with all my might.

---

Please let me know what you think!
