My Hell
It's so
dark; I can't see anything, darker than the deepest cave at midnight.
A soft rumble grows from somewhere beside me. I'm afraid to
move.
'God, please
get me out of this.'
If
I lay very still, maybe everything will go away.
Maybe…maybe...Christ, I've got to get out of this! The rumble grows
louder.
How did I
get here? I shouldn't be here! I should be somewhere warm, someplace
sunny.
I begin
dreaming, finding my happy place. I can almost feel the warm sand on
my feet, the heat of the sun on my bare back. The salty air blows my
hair into my face. I can hear the roar of the waves crashing only
yard away. But wait…that's not right.
The
roar is not the waves…it's…it's... The sound is so loud it seems
to be shaking the ground beneath me. I gotta get outta here. But I
can't, if I move…I don't even want to think about what'll happen if
I move.
Suddenly,
a noise, louder than anything I'd ever heard before, completely
drowns out the rumbling. It's a screeching, screaming blast that
assaults my ears.
Not
again! Please, not again!
Something
taps my arm. I didn't even flinch, I knew it was coming. Next there
will be a push against my shoulder. It had been the same for nearly
nine years. It had been the same yesterday…and the day before
that…and the weeks before that…and the months before that. The
shrieking stops.
"Baby,"
a soothing voice calls to me. "It's time to get up. You have to
go to work."
"NOOOOO!!!"
I scream, jumping out of my bed.
