Le Miserable

by Ephemerae

The melody of life is bittersweet

I’d rather cast it aside

And proceed with a lone voice

Of reason and sanity

I want to tell myself

that my feelings for you are false

They’re shreds of past affections

But why this feeling in my heart?

It hurts… this inability to breathe

As you bring down the knife

Another cut opens in my heart

The streams of blood softly flowing

Perhaps something has changed

A flutter in my chest as I gaze at you

Perhaps it’s the aftereffects of a broken heart

It still hurts though

You ripped my heart into a thousand pieces

And flung it back in my face

I tried to put on my mask

And yet I couldn’t help think of you.

This is the first of two pieces I wrote that compliment each other really well, I think. This one is a poem, as you can see, the other is an extremely short one-shot. Both have the same sort of feel to them, so if you like this one, you’ll like the other.

Rae

P.S.- The companion piece is called ‘Rain’
