ACDA

Walks on the Pier 'low the arching, swaying,
tango-dancing,
baby-let’s-mambo palms,
stretching o’er streets lying
white and lip-stick straight,
past “Save the environment!” Retro-men,
and 'neath the golden, yes, Los Angeles sun.
A freshness--
brought on by the green
(and only this green,
an intense green,)
and the waves of salty, twist-your-mouth-'round-a-lemon smelling sea:
The crystal Pacific-- Romanic, immortal,
so bright it hurts to dream about.
Santa Monica, and the Boulevard:
So peaceful, and quiet, and--
California.
Walk slow-step, stand steady,
but loose and nonchalant.
HOLLYWOOD in white concrete,
broadcasting fame from the hills of tanned models,
schmaltzy hotels,
--Jennifer Aniston walking through the lobby!--
and the lights of a city lying
much too far from home.
