Once, only once did I look back

To watch the day turn into night

So only once I stopped to think

That maybe I wasn’t right

I took your care and made it hate,

For I became what you didn’t want me to be

But the thing you don’t understand

Is that this is right for me.

Following a path that isn’t perfection

At least in your eyes, because it is in mine

If you won’t take this road less traveled with me,

Then I’m gonna leave you behind.

You’re the ball and chain,

Around an ankle that you’ve broken

And the time you told me it was over

Was the first time in months we’d spoken.

You thought I’d be angry

At the things you had to say

But, truth be told,

I left you somewhere far away

To you my fire is just a match

And my chalice just a cup

But you know it won’t make me stop

And wait when you can’t keep up

And still I’m chained, like an angry dog

To the memory of when we met

Live an learn, live and leave

But live to never forget.

I’m still thinking

About all the good times we had

But never ever could it be

That your good outweighs your bad

All I love about you can come tenfold,

Or all I hate about you disintegrate,

I still know it’s gonna work

I’m gonna fly once I lose your weight.
