The Carnival
Life is like a carnival
Time is short
The knowledge that soon
The people will go home
Leaving sparkles
And streamers in the dirt
For someone else to clean
People whirling across
The dance floor
Frantic feathered frenzy
The desperate silent mantra
Time is short
Have fun while you still can
Desperate laughter
Forced smiles
Shiny sweat on red faces
Eyes wide but not seeing
Ears hearing but not listening
Touch sensing but not feeling
Minds determined to have fun
While they still can
Time marches invisible
In between the rides
People rushing to and from
One big roller coaster hurtling
Straight towards the crash
The funhouse of mirrors
Reflecting
Distorting the truth
Making big people short
And thin people fat
Lying until you believe
People wearing masks
Presenting a face to the
Rest of the world
Until the mask sets
And the face beneath
Decaying unused and forgotten
A carnival of life
Fast furious frenetic
Hurry Hurry Hurry
Time is short
Have fun while you still can
One big roller coaster hurtling
Straight towards the crash
