The moon rises high

Over a sleeping land.

The wind whispers softly

"Catch me if you can."

The shadows of the trees

Dance to a midnight melody

Sung quietly by a girl

With a heart so lonely.

Sheltered under the bows

Of the elegant, green trees

She watched the shadows

Dance in the moonlit breeze.

Her voice rang clear

And was bright as the stars

Her song full of hope

To hide her own scars.

On airy feet she glided

To her cherished song.

Dancing and singing

Until came the dawn.

When the sun rose

To greet another day

The girl in the night

Had gone away.

All that was left of her

Was her simple plea.

"Come into the shadowdance

And dance with me."

"I am a shadow

Of a girl you once knew.

I was killed in a crash

In the year two thousand and two."

"If everyone would've listened

I'd be here today

Eating and having cake

On my 10th birthday.

"But I am gone.

I'm just a shadow of me.

Please listen when I say

Don't get drunk; drive safely."
