Trials of Oblivion: Chapter 1: Training to Become

Her ship drove by familiar ledged landing site quickly, her jumping down from an open hatch and landing on the grey and motionless dust ball of a planet while the sound of her air ship still loomed above. She scoped out the area quickly, looking for signs of life, mostly hostile, but found none. Rebel Child was carved onto the metal plate of armor which was latched to her right arm. The child part was scratched out, her body shape proving that she was more then some mere child. Warrior by code and Oblivion by name. This was her life.

She lifted her left arm, holding her weapon in her right, to signify that it was safe for the rest of her troops to come down. Her gaze remained ever vigilant for these people were only new at the hunting game. One by one they all came after her, the ships hovering engines kicking up a small dust storm as it lowered it’s self close enough to the surface for the others to jump. Once they were all down on the ledge, armed and at least hopefully ready, the ship’s engines kicked into high gear and shifted back behind it before quickly soaring high up into the sky. She slowly stood at ease and looked over her students. There were about 8 in all. The group was a bit larger then what she was used to but she figured that she’d have to make due since there had been an officer taken down on the last trip to this sector, though it was about 2 or 3 planets away from them. Many of the soldiers were younger then her, about 15 or 16 while a select few looked about her apparent age, maybe older. Being an alien who was teaching other aliens children she made sure that they knew that if they disobeyed her they would have a choice, to either die slow, or apologize right away. In these training exercises there wasn’t much room for error and she wasn’t going to let others be sacrificed because of some half baked, cocky cowboys, or girls, ideas on how some stupid stunt could make them look good in front of the other students. She was the leader and that’s all they needed to know. She wouldn’t have some student up rise while she was on the job, unlike what happened in sector 7 with some stuffy and obnoxious general who got too far ahead of himself and ended up almost dying in the process. Luckily for him his students killed him before the beasts got to him but of course, without their leader they were soon to fall as well. Only two people made it off of that planet, one being fatally injured but some how surviving.

She gave her students a couple of more minutes to finish off strapping on their armor correctly and loading their guns quickly. She heard a gasping roar and a small grin came to her face. It was time. Everyone scrambled to get ready except for two students. The one student hand only to load his gun before he was ready while the other.. Amazingly he was already prepared and ready to go. It had been a long while since she had seen someone like that and if she could remember correctly he had gone far, though in reality the he was really a she. She nodded to the ready students and turned back towards the tip of the ledge and smiled. She could see their enemy gathering blew which meant that there was only one thing left to do. She turned and shot a large metal spike into the ground behind her, a rope appearing out of the gun in which she threw over the edge in front of her. She jumped, time seeming to stop for a moment before she turned and grabbed the rope behind her and began to quickly slide down. Her students followed behind her, the first one to come down beside her was her student, Vriko. His armor and skin tight suit consisted of black, navy and silver while hers was pastel blue, lilac and pink. Though they weren’t very warrior-ish colors they did attract the creatures attention which in most cases ended up saving her students lives. They shared a long glance before he slid down past her, her feeling as though he was challenging her with made her heart pound with excitement. She lightened her grip on the rope even more, soon catching up and just barely passing him before letting go of the rope completely and landing on the ground roughly. She quickly turned, pulling out her guns while she was at it and began to fire upon the ranks if the vile creatures which infested the planet. They referred to them mostly as drones since that’s basically what they were. They killed, ate, slept and had sex and then just repeated the cycle over and over again until they were in a massive abundance. Her hand guns were soon out which left her pulse cannon. She heard a noise to her right and turned to see Vriko loading up his pulse cannon as well. She nodded towards him and smiled as she turned her attention back towards the battle field. By then some others had come down to join, them pulling out their pulse cannons as well as they began to open fire on the black and grey beasts that lay ahead of them.

He was impressed at how fast the creatures could duplicate but didn’t loose focus as he began to decimate them into.. Oblivion. That thought brought his mind onto their leader, Oblivion. Not much was known about her but with his skills he had learned quite a bit, at least more then even the general of the federation knew, of that he was sure. He heard a sound from above and at first ignored it but once he heard it again he decided to investigate. Vriko looked up just in time to see hoards of the aliens beginning to scale down to mountainside, trying to creep their way towards them.

“Shit!” he replied, turning his gun up at the beasts and beginning to shoot. Oblivion looked over at him and scowled, she was already aware of the drones presence and if he would’ve given her a couple of more minutes she would’ve been able to secure them a retreat. She placed a hand on his arm and lifted him up, ordering him and the others to move along the cannon wall while she radioed in for help. In a clearing about 100 feet from them she saw the ship land and the docking gate slide open. She ordered everyone forward and heard a couple of screams from her troops behind her. She shook her head in frustration, hating to loose her underlings but if they found it more appealing to stay behind with the drones then they have sealed their own fate. First on the ship was Vriko, followed by his best friend Alexandra and next the female warrior with whom she was not really acquainted and after that two more of her men. The ship was ready to take off, her ordering it to do so while running towards it. The pilot replied and slowly began to lift off, her grabbing a hold of the metal ramp and climbing up it before sliding in and landing on her feet. She didn’t pause to rest like her students but instead ripped off her helmet and went up to the intercom, ordering the destruction of the cavern. With no word against the action it was soon carried out. They felt the small rumble but were all fine, her pausing and turning towards her surviving students with a small smile.

“Congratulations, you survived. Your now my newest team of warriors and as such of you dishonor me in anyway, such as letting this power get to your head, then I’ll dump you on a planet such a this one with nothing but a blaster which for your sake I hope you’ll use to put yourself out of your misery,” she said leniently. They were all silent but from the looks in their eyes she knew they understood.

“I expect you all to be on your best behavior and to be ready when I call. You don’t get many sick days with me so use them wisely,” And with that said she turned and walked out of the large loading room.

She stood in small tiled bathroom, naked and looking in a mirror while lost in thought. She had to inform parents and or relatives about the students deaths. There were 3 in total which was in a way sad but over all an excellent run. Not many had come out with 3 and returned with 5. Most don’t come back at all with an untrained group that big, especially when only one person is in charge. She sighed and ran a hand through her long and thick magenta hair. Their would be time to celebrate later. First she had to get the death notices sent out and then she could truly relax. She pulled on a tank top and a pair of flared navy jeans before throwing on some deodorant and lacing her purple, star studded belt through her belt loops. She exited her quarters while doing up her belt, walking past Vriko while doing so and giving him nothing more then a quick smile before walking off towards the file room. The look her gave her was plain and emotionless, it making her raise an eyebrow in thought until she found herself outside of the filing room doors. They slowly slid open and let her inside, a voice filling the room while a face appears on the screen.

“Hello, Code name Oblivion number 341..,” the program began when she sighed.

“Stop. I’m here to inform the parents of Florence, Vern and Mika that their children have passed on. Please send them that message,” she replied quickly.

“It will be done,” the voice replied when Oblivion nodded and walked out of the room. Outside she found one of her male students standing their silently.

“Miss, could you come with me?” he replied, a weird sort of urgency in his voice.

“Sure,” she replied, him nodding and turning away, beginning to walk down towards the games room. She followed him silently, the look on his young face seeming grave though she knew what he was up to. She decided to play along, him leading her exactly to where she thought when the door slid open.

Inside were her students laughing and drinking merrily with one another and of course they wanted their leader to get in on the action. She noticed that they had even got the antisocial Vriko to join in which brought a small smile to her face. Seeing that his job was done and their commander looked as though she was going to stay he soon walked back over towards the others and began to join in on the festivities. She watched the warrior go back to the others and shook her head before turning her attention towards Vriko for a second, him taking the opportunity to get up and walk over to her. She watched him carefully. Though he was one of her warriors she still didn’t know him very well which made her kind of suspicious of him. He smiled, she smiled in return but nothing more happened. He walked past her and out of the room, her growling to herself in anger before following him. He obviously heard her because once outside and a couple of feet away from the door he stopped.

“I know all about you,” he replied, his remark bringing a small smirk to her face.

“Oh, you do, do you?” she asked when he nodded.

“I do,” he said simply, Oblivion remaining silent so then he could continue.

“I know your name, and I’ve read your file,” he replied, turning to face her.

“Heh, you know more then the general does then,” she replied with a small laugh while leaning against the double barred metal railings.

“That bastard, it wouldn’t take much,” he replied while walking towards her.

“You don’t like him?” she asked when a small grin came to his lightly tanned face.

“Does anyone?” he asked when she shrugged.

“Well, I figured that someone had to, right?” she replied when he nodded.

“I guess,” he said before stopping right in front of her.

“Does it not bother you that I know who you are?” he asked when she shook her head.

“No. that’s why the captain put me out here,” she replied when he nodded, saying nothing more before walking away. She smiled and watched him go, her shaking her head a bit before one of the pilots came down to meet her. She looked up at him, her smile still apparent which made him smile in return.

“Ready?” he asked when she grinned mischievously.

“Only if you are?” she replied when he nodded.

“Good, lets go,” he said, stretching out his hand to help her up.
