Trials of Oblivion: Chapter 3: The General’s Deranking

Sgt. General Albert Quartrez and Oblivion’s warriors walked through the narrow cavern silently while Oblivion and three well seasoned warriors ducked down, ready to strike if the situation called for it. Everything was silent, so silent that it made the small hairs on the backs of their necks stand up on end while the rising anticipation made the silence almost unbearable. She looked over the small gap to the other three warriors who were talking to one another quietly. She raised an eyebrow in suspicion as they took glances over at her in-between their angry whispers. She looked down at the others below and sighed before she heard the sound of a pulse gun loading, her turning in time to see one of the men firing down at the warriors below.

“What the fuck!?” she replied angrily, before the other two loaded their guns as well and fired upon her. She dodged the shots, but not by much, and from the commotion that she heard below she knew that they could hear what was happening below.

If it wasn’t for the General’s clumsy stumble he would’ve been shot but by some sort of dumb luck he lived. The shot immediately brought their eyes up towards the top of the canyons were they saw the other three male warriors firing upon both them and their leader, Oblivion. Without delay they got out of range by running into one of the temples, Vriko taking a quickly glance back to see Oblivion jump over the canyon towards the villainous turncoats.

“Out of sight though hardly out of mind,” Oblivion thought before landing on the other side of the canyon. She whipped out her gun and shot one of the men who fell down into the cavern below. With a couple of more shots and quick movements she got herself out of the way and brought down the last two morons before her one wound began to even bleed. She looked down at her wounded arm and growled, tying something over it quickly before following after her teammates, they had no idea what they had just walked into.

“Follow me,” the general ordered as he lead them down further into the winding maze of the Segaran temple. A lot of the warriors by that time have had more then enough of the general’s dominating and self centered ways. Most of them found it funny how he had run so quickly from a battle instead of fighting in it like they all should have.

“This is bullshit,” Vriko said finally, him stopping totally.

“Yeah.. This doesn’t really feel right,” Sahara replied, her voice soft but thoughtful.

“Yeah, shouldn’t we be fighting?” Alexander asked, a note of disapproval in his voice.

“Damn right we should be, not running away,” Zeven said angrily when the general turned to face them.

“Excuse me!?” Sgt. Quartrez said angrily, his large square face turning to face the young warriors.

“We said this sucks,” Alexander replied simply. Albert’s face contorted from mild interest into anger quickly. He stepped up to Alexander and looked down at him.

“Private Cross! You will do as I say! I am your superior!” he yelled loudly, Alexander grinding his teeth in frustration when suddenly Vriko stepped up.

“You are not our superior, you are in a total different league then we are, and since you’ve seemed to forget I guess I should remind you that our rank is higher then yours! We’re here to help you, not get ordered around..” he said smoothly.

“Fine. Serve that maniac that you call your leader. But don’t come crying to me when she ends up eating your souls,” he replied with a small grin while the others all looked to one another.

“I’d rather follow some one who has a code of honor and at least some pride then some loser who runs from every battle that comes to call,” Zeven replied before turning and walking away. The others nodded in response, agreeing, before following his lead and heading back out towards the exit. The last to leave was Vriko who gave the general one last look before disappearing out of sight.

Meanwhile, Oblivion quickly scaled down the cliff and cautiously made her way into the old temple. She reached about the second room before she ran back into her group of warriors. She greeted them with a small smile, happy that they were ok when she found that the general didn’t seem to be amongst them.

“Where’s the general?” she asked curiously while her students talked loudly to one another. Once hearing her question a couple of them settled down and turned their attention back towards their leader.

“We left his ass behind,” Alexander replied proudly when Oblivion placed a hand on her forehead.

“Why..? Was that wrong?” he asked curiously, his expression changing quickly as he saw hers.

“No.. I probably would’ve done the same thing..” she replied slowly when Vriko stepped towards her, his gun ready as usual.

“But..?” he inquired when she shot him a small grin.

“I have to go back and get him, we might end up being charged for murder or inability to perform proper orders,” she replied with a thoughtful sigh.

“Just wait here and I’ll take care of it,” she replied, her students falling silent as she walked off when Vriko grabbed her arm.

“I’m going to,” he replied, the tightness of his grip actually making her stop to look back at him.

“Vriko.. I,” she began when she was cut off.

“I’m going with you..” he replied slowly yet sharply. She growled softly before looking back to her students and sighing.

“Fine,” she replied shortly, pulling her arm from his grasp.

“But when we get back on the ship me and you are going to have a talk,” she said, the anger in her voice apparent as the two of them walked back through another door and down the dark stairs below.

“I’ll bet ya twenty that those two end up screwin’ each other,” Zeven replied when Sahara raised an eyebrow slightly in disgust.

“In which way?” she asked curiously when he shrugged.

“Good question… maybe both?” he said, the tone in his voice matching the expression on his face, both unsure of what they would do to one another if given the chance.

Up ahead they could hear the cowardly Sgt. General stumble around stupidly, making far too much noise then what either one of them would’ve liked. The whimpering sounds of Quartrez brought a small smirk to Oblivion’s lips while Vriko’s expression just remained the same. Above and a couple of feet to their right they could hear something moving across the ceiling. They kept their guns close and ready as they turned the next corner to see General Albert standing in a lit up stone hall bout 30 feet away from them. They slowly crept towards him when suddenly there was a small screech as a small drone jumped out of the shadows over top of them and waved it’s tentacles wildly. Vriko was the first to shoot, him blasting one of it’s small but thick tentacles off. Oblivion fired next and Vriko again after that, them both hitting it straight in the mouth and watched as there beams went out the other side. It wriggled around on the floor for a couple of seconds before finally she stepped on it and ended it’s life quickly. After that commotion they turned, the General now facing them though his face was still covered in shadow from the light which now began to glow from a couple of feet behind him. He slowly began to make his way towards them when suddenly a larger drone dropped down from above him and began to rip his flesh open. It was sight that Oblivion had seen many times before so the sight of the generals flesh being ripped and organs being devoured didn’t bother her. Though his screaming was beginning to get on her nerves. So she ended it with a quick bullet to the head. The shot may have brought a quick silence but it soon brought something else in its wake. Soon the stone hall began to fill up quickly with the drone like creatures, them snapping and snarling their jaws hungrily.

“This explains why there are no Segaran’s here,” Oblivion replied, her comment getting nothing more then a nod from Vriko as they slowly back out of the room and then bolted out as soon as they were out of eye sight from the beasts.

Oblivion and Vriko soon came upon their teammates who were already outside and boarding the ship. Both firing, swearing and giving orders at the same time, Oblivion and Vriko made their way out towards the ship. Soon they were both inside, a lot of chatter going on in-between the warriors on board until Oblivion got to her feet and cleared her throat.

“Vriko.. Come with me..” she replied, her voice sharp and angrier then usual, it making everyone fall deathly silent as the two walked passed them and out of the room.

“I think she’s going to kill him,” Zeven replied simply before Alexander elbowed him in the ribs.

“Don’t even kid about that!” he said loudly.
